LJF
Hate drawing conclusions from an exhibition vs a D2 team, but not sure if Keita is the answer

What was the question? I don't recall.

That said, LJF is the balls.

Yes, LJ is legit. Going to be a huge piece of his team and program for next 3 years hopefully

17 assists, excellent.  Missing FTs and poor 3 shooting, problematic.  Not getting to 3 shooters.  Ponds 0-5 from 3 against a D2 team pitiful but his overall game was there. Thought they moved the ball pretty well for so early in the season. The pieces are present but inefficient in this game.....game should have been a blowout which would have given Roberts, Williams and Earlington some time.  Overall a subpar performance, even for an exhibition.

LJ is going to be good, seems to have a knack to score the ball.

Ponds looked like a cry baby, and was high dribbing and bricking all night.  Nothing like bragging when you aren't playing well.

Very happy with how Keita looks, and he didn't get into foul trouble, which is a positive.

Surprised how little Dixon's impact was.

I guess we didn't work on foul shots.

Someone tell Coolio to cut his hair, he looks like a tool.

If I am Mullin I make some rule about ball touching paint before we chuck yet another 3.  Without looking at the box score, maybe Trimble is the only guy who can shoot it now.  Not clark, and CERTAINLY not Ponds.

My national title hopes are a bit tempered, maybe down to final four.

Long season guys, we can do this.  Can't wait for Tuesday (and Heron please god).

I didn't see or hear the game but I saw the comment "they are going to be scary in 6 weeks"  Unfortunately, The season starts next week. The  only game I will see them in person is 4 weeks from now in Miami. I hope they improve on the 6 week prediction before Ga. Tech. I am sort of stunned by the result; I am reminded of our opening game with St. Francis of Brooklyn some years ago when we were also getting "warmed up". I think I will turn to prayer!

Since the game was close up until the end, the staff had to roll with the players that they will be counting on in the games that count. Nobody was in foul trouble and LJ played the second most minutes on the team. Maybe it was because he was playing with by far the most energy out of anyone, but it's clear he will be on the court in big games and big situations.

Even without Heron, Williams didn't play. Roberts and Earlington also with no run at all. Not surprised that Roberts or Earlington didn't play but kind of surprised Williams didn't get spot minutes especially in the first half. Another thing that's clear is those guys won't be seeing the court outside of blowouts.

I think Williams will get some run this year, he brings a skill set the other guys don’t really have.

Someone mentioned Dixon earlier, I have a feeling he’s gonna be a streaky kinda guy, nonexistent some times and hitting 5 straight shots others.

For a lineup that featured 3 brand new pieces, soon to be 4, I gave them a pass tn to work out the kinks.

The competition steps up with each game. I've done some research on Bowling Green and don't laugh but I think that they're going to be a tough out. They feature a imposing big man, return most of their lineup from last year and are a improving older team, much like us. In 2 weeks they'll be playing on the road on a Friday night in a front of a sold out RAC arena that will be out for blood. They need MH back next Tuesday and Friday to prepare for it.

Rutgers' frontcourt has a 7 footer, two 6'11's and a 6'9. Gang rebounding needs to improve.

Encouraged by the man to man D as well as the play of Bryan, certainly LJF and Keita. Ponds playing Mr. Cool has to end right now. Justin and Marv will always be reliable.

Shot selection, fast break routes, and establishing roles have to be ironed out in a very short period of time.

What I liked:
Figueroa’s game. He’s got basketball instincts. I think he could play a role like Justin Brownlee did in 2010.

This Keita isn’t a stiff with the ball in his hands. He can score the ball.

It’s impressive when your PG gets 12 rebounds no matter who the opponent is.

What I didn’t like:

Shamorie, the junior pre season AA gets rattled against Maryville and picks up a technical foul. It’s an exhibition, but that’s the leader, and he has to set a better example.

I’m not going call out the play of any other player because what stood out most to me is that they aren’t a team yet. They need to learn how to play together. If it hasn’t occurred to some, a cup cake schedule is probably in response to all of the new players.
What matters most is if the staff can bring these guys together.

I think it’s a good decision to have a short bench. I’m looking forward to seeing how it all comes together.

Not going to overreact too much. I think we will work out the kinks and be a great team by March.

My concern is that we clearly arent playing as a team yet, and we dont have much margin for error coming out of the gate. One or two bad losses in the OOC could kill our tournament chances.

What did he do? I was watching mullin curse at the refs and missed it. I assumed the tech was on him.

He reacted badly to a foul call, took the ball all the way to the other end of the court, and put it down on the ground.  Didn't slam it down, but didn't give it back, either.  Ref was watching him all the way too, which was a little petty IMO, but somebody should have let Ponds know that he was watching.

I was sitting behind the scores table. He said “very unsportsmanlike conduct”

That's exactly what it was. No need for him to leave the ball at the other baseline and walk back. He's got this Joe Cool attitude going on right now and I'd much rather see gritty and leadership.

LJ has 7 offensive boards in two exhibitions. The kid just may end up saving our season.

I hope MH hits the offensive glass hard to make up for Simon's princess act.
