I am not happy with Ponds right now.

Fortunately the season hasn't started yet, so there's still time to right the ship.

I have no desire to read your clownish posts. If there was a mute button available to block all of your posts I would have done it years ago. You bring nothing of value and merely use your extended vocabulary to troll those who have opinions that differ from yours.

You have no desire to read my clownish posts, but here you are reading them, and replying to them, and rehashing ones I wrote six months ago, which evidently you have cataloged. That doesn't seem like a very - caution: big word coming - efficacious way of ignoring me.

It's not a mater of playing the victim card or achieving the moral high ground it's simply a matter of being a decent human and to have the insight to realize you're a member of an online community here. Realizing that you're not more important then any other poster or reader here

"You're not more important then any other poster or reader here," says the guy who wants me banned because he finds my posts personally offensive. Do you see the irony?

Quote
it would be common decency to try to avoid insulting or disrespecting.

Yeah well, I never claimed to be decent. On the contrary, I freely admit to being an unpleasant misanthropic asshole. But you know what? Insulting people is fun. Disrespecting people and institutions is fun. Iconoclasm and contrarianism are fun. Try it some time.

Calling Tony a mentally challenged person or using a Vietnamese ethnic slur is not only disrespectful to the person you're arguing with but could be trigger words that bring up negative emotions

Trigger words? Have you heaven forfend been micro aggressed? Maybe go have a lie down on the divan and I'll bring you a coloring book.

Trigger words and micro aggressions and safe spaces are post modern faggotries designed to confer victimhood on people who would otherwise have to take responsibilities for their own decisions and failures.

for other users of this service that Dave allows us to use for free. You stepped on my shoes when making light of cancer survivors which brought to mind difficult personal feelings of a younger brother who struggled through that.

You citing your difficult personal feelings, this is you not playing the victim card I assume.

Story: I was living with my brother when my father died young of cancer - he had the misfortune of not being a cancer survivor - lo these many years ago. I'd come home from a gig at I don't know probably 5 AM after a long night of whore mongering and debauchery and after a bit the phone started ringing and it rang and rang and finally he answered it because I certainly wasn't getting up and after a few minutes he came in and shook me awake and said "we lost dad" and without missing a beat I said "did you look behind the refrigerator." It was a funny cancer joke then and it's a funny cancer joke now.

Quote
I know Tony has said it before but you're the classic definition of a keyboard tough guy. You wouldnt dare say something like that to my face because I'm probably 40 years your junior and I'd run circles around you.

Citing Tony does not help your case, because Tony's, well, you know. And anyway Tony's wrong. I'm not a tough guy: I'm a typist. I don't have the theme from Rocky playing in the background, I'm not shadowing boxing between posts and wearing dirty sweats (okay I am wearing dirty sweats but you get the point). The fact is I wouldn't say "something like that" to your face because we'd never be in the same room together, because I'm very particular about with whom I drink. And the fact is that if we were in the room together I might very well say something like that, assuming that "that" is a reference to cancer or god forbid an off color joke that might trigger a microaggression. And if I did dare to you'd what? Punch me in the face like a real life tough guy? That sir, does not sound like "common decency." Quite the contrary, it sounds to me like you're mentally ill.
It's difficult to ignore responses on a thread of posts.  I would love for there to be a block button and just have any of the garbage you post remain invisible.

Fact of the mater is you are disobeying community rules that Dave put together in 2007.  Perhaps those rules mean nothing.  However, if they are meant to be followed then they should be enforced.

I'd venture to guess we've been in the same room if you attend alumni gatherings. I'm not hard to find.

Failing that you could look for the picture of David Hoag speaking truth to power and scroll past the accompanying text. At least until you succeed in having me banished.

I've been posting here for quite a while and believe that my behavior generally comports with rules of the forum and of civility even. I mean sure, sometimes I'm a tad intemperate, but so are we all. I doubt the odd mention of cancer violates any community standards and there's quite a bit of name calling, especially in the off season, when things are slow. Why even a poster as decorous - and self righteous - as you called me a "dick head"  a few weeks ago. Needless to say I was terrifically triggered but I laid down for a bit in a safe space with my teddy bear and got over it.

Alas I was not afforded the luxury of a Saint John's education. And neither do I attend gatherings. Unfortunately I'm not hard to find either, having been doxxed by a disgruntled reader who used a picture of my mailbox as his personal avatar and PM'ed me to let me know that he "knows where [my] wife works." Talk about your common decency. If you want to come by some time and punch me in the face happy hour starts mid afternoon ish, but you have to bring your own mixers because I drink out of the bottle and mind the Chows (that's not a racial slur, I hasten to add, but a breed of dog), they haven't had any exercise since a couple of Witnesses stopped by last month. Failing that, enjoy the season, I smell a Sweet 16.

I have no sense of humor when it comes to jokes

What if there are people who have a sense of humor when it comes to jokes? Why should your snowflake sensibilities trump their right to have a laugh? Especially when there's a very simple solution available to you: don't read posts under my cute screen name and don't visit my cool personal blog. But you won't do that, because you want to be aggrieved, because if you're aggrieved you're a victim and by virtue of your victimization you achieve the moral high ground. So nothing will do but the eradication of sentiments of which you personally disapprove, no matter how narrow minded or ill informed your purely subjective judgments about the limits and propriety of social intercourse.

I don't think fun claims to be a tough guy, he claims to be funny and anyone with a sense of humor recognizes this.  I'm turning 70 this year and long years of experience have enabled me to recognize a young punk.  Implying you would take some sort of physical action if you were in close proximity to a man a generation or two older than you is pathetic. Fun brings levity to the board, he takes nothing seriously and recognizes that basketball is a game, not a lifechanging activity.  By the way, beware of the Chows, they will rip your throat out.

Wait wait wait.  You're not alumni? You dig your toes in the sand and take this Mullin is the second coming of John Wooden/ 1985 forever/ Steve Lavin is the anti-christ position but you neither donated any money nor have ever attended our university.  In my opinion, you have no skin in this game and your opinion does not matter to me.  St. John's was my home for 8 years.  The basketball team is a part of me. The opinions I express are based on my personal belief of what's best for this basketball team because I derive a great sense of pride and personal self worth on how successful St. John's is. You're just a fan (maybe) of the program.  No wonder you stated you'd rather have Mullin as coach then Lavin even if it meant Mullin went winless.  You don't actually care about this program the way some of us do.

As far as you following the rules, I direct you to the third sentence of Dave's pinned Rules/Tips thread.
Some (very brief) forum rules:
    * Respect other posters.  Insults, and flames will not be tolerated
There's no way you're following that.

I know nothing about what some old poster did with your wife nor do I have any desire to commit senior citizen assault so you can stop with all the violence talk.

In my opinion, you have no skin in this game

Yes well, I beg to differ, This from my stupid personal blog:

"Vincent de Paul Lynch was born near Love Canal NY in 1927. In 1944 he lied about his age and joined the Navy to serve in World War II. After helping to defeat Hitler he was granted an honorable discharge and took advantage of the GI Bill to earn three Bachelor of Science Degrees, one each in biology, chemistry, and pharmacology. He went on to receive Masters and Doctorate degrees in Pharmacology and was named a professor at St. John’s University in 1958. In 1961 he was appointed Chair of the Department of Allied Sciences. Right around 1970 – about the time he founded the first degree program in toxicology in the US and with his much younger wife pregnant – Doctor Lynch was diagnosed with cancer. He took a semester sabbatical and after a number of surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation, returned to his teaching duties, having mentioned his health issues to no one, not even Bill Rafferty on national television every chance he got. He was named Chair of Pharmaceutical Sciences in 1972 and Chair of the SJU’s Institutional Review Board in 1974. He served in those positions until his cancer returned and killed him in 1984. He was 57. Among his other accomplishments, Dr. Lynch cofounded the Society of Forensic Toxicologists; was editor of the International Congress of Pharmacology; was editor of the Journal of Analytic Toxicology; and was a member of the Editorial Board of Research Communications in Substance Abuse. He served as Toxicological Examiner for the NYC Civil Service Commission from 1965 until his death; on the NY State Drug Abuse Control Commission, the NY State Senate Committee on Crime, the NY State Assembly Committee on Health, and the NY State Joint Legislative Committee on Drug Abuse. He served on various boards of directors, including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Greater New York; Queens Children’s Hospital; the NY Metropolitan Transit Authority; the Nassau County Poison Control Center; the NYC Poison Control Center; and the NYC Department of Health. In between that he delivered hundreds of public lectures on substance abuse to students, community organizations, and law enforcement and published more than 50 scholarly articles and book chapters on subjects as diverse as inhalation therapy (you’re welcome asthma sufferers), the effects of various toxicants, poison detection, myocardial infarction, cardiopulmonary dynamics, and serum cholesterol. All of which sounds to me like a life pretty well lived and that’s not even taking into account his greatest accomplishment: me. Because he was my father. He died 33 years ago this month, bequeathing to his son a box of musty books, the Irish gene, and a Mossberg over under 12 gauge I keep loaded by the front door to discourage bears, Jehovah Witnesses, and other unwanted guests."

My father did not like me. I can't say that I blame him, because I don't like me much either. But the one thing he and I did together was attend SJ BB games - my first one was against ND at the Garden in 19 seventy something, SJ lost by one when Frankie Alagia clanked one off the back rim at the buzzer. There could have been no finer introduction to the lifetime of disappointment that being a SJ fan comprises. You might not think that's skin in the game stupid, but I do. Now piss off snowflake, before I really trigger you.

I know nothing about what some old poster did with your wife nor do I have any desire to commit senior citizen assault so you can stop with all the violence talk.

I would love for there to be a block button and just have any of the garbage you post remain invisible.

Failing that you could look for the picture of David Hoag speaking truth to power and scroll past the accompanying text. At least until you succeed in having me banished.

Fact of the mater is you are disobeying community rules that Dave put together in 2007.  Perhaps those rules mean nothing.  However, if they are meant to be followed then they should be enforced.

I'd venture to guess we've been in the same room if you attend alumni gatherings. I'm not hard to find.

Ah that makes me so happy. Knowing that no matter what the school values my opinions more than yours.

Fair enough. For my part I'm indifferent to you and your opinion and to the university's opinion of your opinion. Which indifference I'll demonstrate by never reading anything you write on this board again, ever. See you in the funny papers, stupid.

ok, so you have to be a grad to give a sh*t?  Got it, guess I will stop posting back here.  I have a very similar background to Foad's (father was SJU undergrad class of '60, law class of '63, was a past alumni association president and a was awarded a Caritas Medal by the university, and I grew up going to all SJU home games with him from 1980 through 1995), and connections that (before they died) ran to Louie, Kaiser and Fr. Cahill , but ok, got it.  Thanks for the brilliant insights.
