Horrible advice, whoever told him...2 games of little playing time and he pulls the trigger? Sheesh!

Should he have expected to magically play his way into significantly more minutes later this season instead?

He was either playing this spring semester here or spring semester 2020 at his next school. If he had stayed here he would play maybe 7-8 MPG and average 1.8 PPG. If he transfers down which he likely will next spring semester he will play around 30 MPG and average 16 PPG. Not horrible advice at all.

When Ponds is sitting, who is gonna take it up? Heron? Trimble? Simon?

Justin Simon.

G-Will and Keita will benefit most from Dixon's minutes. Trimble was probably always going to get his minutes. Dixon leaving does clear up a logjam with increased roles for G-Will and Keita this year, and next season the backcourt is Cam, Wright, G-Will and probably Trimble.

This isn’t clearing up a log jam. He was our best scorer off the bench, and it wasn’t close. This is a loss for St.John’s and probably for Dixon.

Mikey Dixon’s game = Larry Wright’s game

I thought the same thing, and yet WASJU hates one and loved the other. Fickle.

Justin Simon.

Justin has already been bringing up the ball while Shamorie has been out for rest, it's going to be a seamless transition. It's been a slow death for Mikey since the beginning of the season, sad it ended this way, but his absence has little consequence on the rest of the conference schedule, barring injury.

Williams must be able to score about 7 off the bench along with about 5-6 for Trimble

Couldn’t disagree more. He has shown some ability to score and seems quick enough to be able to defend, he could certainly have value in games this year.

And not sure about slow death, he’s been playing near 20 min most games and had 13 points against st Francis a few games ago. Not a huge loss, I’ll admit but would rather he stayed for at least this year.

Lol when we were playing nobodies and winning by 20-30 he was getting some burn. When we finally play a couple good teams in a row he plays a total of 8 minutes.

This is another example of our fan base being stuck 30 years in the past. There’s no such thing as loyalty in sports. A college staff would kick a kid to the curb without thinking twice if they needed to use his scholarship for somebody better. And a kid would bolt that same program for what he thinks is a better situation for him, as he should

This is the program that had four full seasons of Amar Alibegovic.

Yes and if you remember he announced he was transferring after his Jr season because the staff thought they needed his scholarship. Turns out whatever player they were targeting fell through so he stayed. Had that player chosen to come here Amar would have been shown the door

Yes, I remember that, but he played another 2 seasons after that, and it was clear that he was in over his head to say the least.

And it wasn’t close. We could have replaced him with anyone, but we didn’t.

Personally I didn’t see him up to the task of playing at this level.  He thought he would be our point and now it has Cam Mack’s name on it.

If there was somebody to replace him with we would have and he would have been shown the door.

What’s your point anyway? Is it that coaches wouldn’t tell a player to leave if they needed to open up his scholarship for somebody better? If it is then you’re laughably naive. Look at what happened at Nevada this summer.

College coaches are among the scummiest people on the planet up there with politicians and lawyers. They will be in a recruit’s living room one day assuring him and his parents that he’ll be there for all 4 of that kid’s college years and the next week that coach will be at an introductory press conference at another school.

Again I ask, why are you so vehemently opposed to kids doing what they think is in their best interest?

The kid couldnt grasp defensive concepts in the middle of his third year of college. It's possible he was sill adjusting, but it's more likely that he just doesn't have what it takes between the ears.

He's better served going to a low level A-10 or MAC school that will let him be Batman or Robin scoring and take an easy assignment on D. Better yet, he should go to a school that plays zone.  He was late on everything and that's weird because he was the quickest kid on the team. He looks like he's never seen a sceen before.

I don't think this changes our depth much at all barring an injury. It's not like Trimble or Williams have ever played enough to get tired.

Agreed, but we were blowing out MARQ by 20.....in this case, he was already enrolled and from the sound of it he was bitching about playing time....his void is not being filled with another scholarship this year...I doubt the staff would have pushed midseason transfer..

I don't believe in loyalty either, but if he determines that he will not getting future playing time after 2 games...and chose to dog it, and not bust his ass in practice, and transfer, brother, that's on him

He's been a defensive liability all year and 7 minutes combined over the first 2 BE games.

Mikey Dixon’s game = Larry Wright’s game

Dixon better at finishing with the rock, but similar players. Offensively minded. Good shooters. Good at getting theirs.

Totally and completely lost on defense to point of do they even know who they are suppposed to be covering if anyone at all.

Larry Legend was way better than Dixon.
