Game 23: @Marquette (FS1, 570 AM)
« on: February 04, 2019, 11:54:12 AM »
Marv and Shamorie combined for 8/13 from 3 in Queens, the offense was flowing, the defense was stifling and the crowd was a huge factor. Obviously holding Howard to 2/15 from the field is unlikely to happen again.

What are the keys to a sweep? A top10 road win would do wonders for our resume and will give the program the marquee win that is sorely needed.

I think a big key will be Simon. He's gotta obviously put the clamps on Howard again but more so he needs to get his head on right on offense. The last few games he's been dreadful with his shot selection. Clark has to be better with fouls, feels like he's taken himself out of games. Shamorie better come out angry. And by angry I don't mean heat checking step back threes in the corner, he just needs to be aggressive going to the rack. So does Heron. He's seen the most success by attacking. All this feels simple to do, sans guarding Howard. Hopefully it works out in our favor.

Fun fact: St John's has held Howard to under 10ppg in the 4 games he has played in against us.  (3, 9, 18, 9)
Hopefully that doesn't mean he's due.

Just when you thought sports writing couldn't get any worse, this guy proves you wrong:

@NYPost_Brazille St Johns opens as a 6-point underdog at Marquette tomorrow. Thought it would be closer to 8.

Question: how much closer can six be to eight? Answer: somewhere near one.

Think Marvin keys the win tonight, hits some threes and plays good D on Theo John.

I think they need 15-20 from Big Marv tonight.

Also think your main man Simon is due for a wacky good game. I’m thinking 2 corner threes and please god take that elbow jump stop jumper.

That would require a jump stop:)

A win tonight gives us a little more leeway with the games, maybe even allowing us to get in with a sub .500 BE record.  A loss tonight and 5-3 plus a win in the BE may be necessary to dance...

Shamorie goes crazy tonight!

Following an embarrassing personal performance against Duke on national TV, Ponds outplays Howard tonight. We have an edge in speed and athleticism at all 5 positions against Marquette, Milwaukee is not nearly the same home court advantage as Creighton is, and Marquette (while a very good team having a wonderful season) has yet to prove that they deserve to be Top 10.

Johnies with a crucial road win, 92-87.

And the ability to stop. :)

I’m scared of the zone. Makes no sense for them to play man.

Older Hauser really struggled against Figgy and Heron in the corner. It’s a complete mismatch.

And Howard on anyone is a mismatch. Post him all day. Make him use his legs up fighting position on D instead of raining threes.

How big is tonight's game for St. John's at Marquette? Would take a massive collapse for Red Storm to miss the NCAA Tournament if they sweep the Golden Eagles. Win and in? Close. #SJUBB
