I agree with this as far as Texas and Indiana are concerned. However, the committee may view this season as the perfect opportunity to try to show they don't hate mid majors and throw a Belmont or UNCG in there at the expense of a power conference team.
One other thing to consider... The NCAA Tournament is a business and it makes it money through TV. Maybe, just maybe the powers that be see this as a chance to get the play-in game TV ratings a bump by having a NYC market team in there. Maybe.
Mullin himself may also play a role for us. Not that I think he's a good coach by any means, but his name and storyline could even give us a nudge, as this would be his first time in the dance as a coach.
If you had asked me two weeks ago about our chances of dancing, then I'd have said "easily." I still think we make it based on having some solid wins, but I'd be surprised to see us solidly in the field. I think it's Dayton or bust (NIT). We'll be playing Tuesday or Wednesday one way or another.
