JUCO All-Americans Announced
« on: April 22, 2019, 01:34:24 PM »
Of note to St. John’s fans:

No Cameron Mack on first, second or third team and absent from honorable mention as well.

Alonzo Verge (Marillac favorite) was first team and will be playing for Hurley at ASU.

Valdir Manuel made second team.

Chris Duarte was 1st team and from Troy, NY. Signed with Oregon.

Khadim Sy - Listed as “warm” interest in Arkansas before Anderson left was 3rd team and is 6’10

Javion Hamlet who was being recruited by Cleveland is absent from all teams. A bit surprising.

I was going to mention earlier that since they are keeping Cleveland on the staff that leave y’all still have a shot at Hamlet, he is really good PG that can shoot and would be the missing piece y’all are missing and automatically make y’all a really good team.

Also noticed Hsu is following Hamlet now too. Would be surprised if we aren't seriously in the mix for him

Under Chris Mullin, there really were no big men to speak of. In terms of the guys we have, there is Keita (6'9), semi athletic, looks good but uncoordinated as hell. 6'9 Steere transfer from NC St coming in (should be the best of the bunch - which isn't saying much). Josh Roberts 6'7, 6'8. Raw, athletic, With good coaching he could be decent. That's about it and a 6'5 guy named Earlington who looked semi decent in very limited action last year. More of a hustle, role guy but looked ok.

Let's hope Anderson can bring in a serviceable big on both ends of the floor because we have been sorely lacking those here for many years now.

I’d take him for sure. His shot looks awful though but it does go in at a decent clip.

We have a 6’9 rising soph who is insanely athletic but a little thin and raw. He moves incredibly well and is a menace on the glass. Sounds like it might be right up CMA’s alley.

We have a 6’9 260 ox who played one game for NC State and transferred. He was being recruited by Arkansas (from NC like Watkins). He will be a redshirt freshman and will likely be eligible to start the season but may be held out until second term.

We have a 6’9 240 rising redshirt-JR who transferred in from South Carolina. He defends adequately but he doesn’t rebound at all, is very mechanical, and he has terrible hands. Then again, we had no big man coach.

We have also have a 6’5/6’6 former high major defensive end recruiting target who averages at rebound every 5 seconds but barely played and is a complete mystery to everyone.

Nothing is proven.

who is hsu

Associate head coach at Western Kentucky. He’s a monster recruiter and solid X’s and O’s guy. He’s from Queens originally.

More on Khadim Sy:

He’s 6’10 240. He played one year at Virginia Tech before transferring to Daytona College in JUCO. He averaged 11.4 mpg, 2.7 boards, and 4.0 pts at Va Tech. He started 28/34 games. Wow.

He averaged just under 17 and 10 at Daytona in a strong league.

I’d rather have him than Manuel.

Exactly the type of big this program needs. Would help immensely in a lot of ways.  Auburn and LSU have offered but hopefully we can somehow pry him away.

He’s the kind of big you can plug in next to the uncertain group we have and lock down the four and five positions.

I trust the new staff to have identified the right players and they were on this kid while at Arkansas.

People don't know Queens now? This board is for SJU fans...you do know it is in Queens, right?

Multiple guards from his conference made it too.
