I think Johnny23 nailed it.

But, I would like to have Matt Brust on my bench.  All time great energy guy.

Mel Davis averaged 21 points and 16 rebounds over his two-year career. Can he be ninth man? Assuming Matt Brust is unavailable obviously.

Mel Davis is easily #9, and could possibly deserve to be even higher. He was a great player.

All pre-1980 players in your starting lineup. If we were talking about music, I would have definitely agreed.

Yeah Matt Brust was a bull and instant impact. Maybe make a special exemption for his role.

Ironically 3/5 of my first team was the 1985 team, , too bad they didnt have the 3 point shot then

I was half way joking - no Mullin, no Berry - the point being that basketball didn't start in 1985. Mel Davis averaged 21 and 16. George Johnson averaged 15 and 10. Leroy Ellis averaged 17 and 13. They played a combined 30 years in the league. And people are trying to find room on the GOAT team for floor slapping dope Matt Brust, the most over rated player in SJ basketball history. It's sad how little people know about the history of the program and how little they appreciate it.

85 was a long time ago and many people didn’t follow before then and aren’t familiar w the players, Although,I know we had some good ones. Agree w Brust not being in the discussion.

All well and good and yes 1985 was a long time ago. And yet so much of what SJ fans hold on to when they lay claim to basketball greatness happened well before that and very little after. If you asked me to name the greatest Yankee team of all time and I left off Ruth, Gehrig, Mantle and Berra in favor of Chris Chambliss, Tino Martinez, Bernie Williams and Jorge Posada would you credit that to my youth or attribute it to my ignorance?

My father graduated from SJU right after ww2. He told me about the nationally prominent Redmen, They won the Nit when it was a better tourney than the NCAA and in 52 made the NCAA finals. I agree that the rich bb history dates back well before 85. But, the players were not household names like Babe Ruth,Joe D et al.
