Ponds 2-Way Contract with Rockets

Ponds completed an exhibit 10 contract that paid him 50K.  Two way contracts paid $4,737 last season for each day the player was on an NBA roster, and the average two way deal in the League last year paid $234,000. Players who spent the maximum 45 days on an NBA roster last season made $506,124, not counting travel per diems, housing allowance, and insurance coverage.

Trier on the Knicks was a two way player at the start of last season.  While injuries certainly play a large part, the two way deal can be Ponds' vehicle to a steady paycheck in the League.  Let's wish him all the best as he continues to show what he's capable of.

To be able to play 45 days on the best team in the NBA is a amazing opportunity. They're investing in him, it looked bleak in Summer League w Chiozza icing him out, glad Daryl Morey saw through it.

I think he'll spend bulk of time in G-League. I'm hopeful he makes most of that opportunity and gets into crazy good shape. He checked into NBA combine with 2nd most body fat % behind Naz Reid.

He has the talent and good mental understanding of the game but needs to improve physically and be more professional in his nutrition.

Either way 2 way contract will set him up for a big pay day overseas if this doesn't work out.

On September 5th, the Rockets converted the two way contracts of Shamorie Ponds and William McDowell-White from two way deals to standard contracts. Houston's 2 two way slots are now open again. Chris Clemons became a free agent.
