Got a long wood handle kinda like an ax handle with a long blade on it shaped kinda like a banana. Sharp on one edge and dull on the other'n. It's what the highway boys used to cut down weeds and whatnot. Some folks called it a sling blade, I called it a kaiser blade, mmm,

For some people, when a coach is fired or a player transfers out the immediate feeling is that their time here was all bad, and we’ll be better off.

For the most part, Mullin recruited guys that really wanted to score. And we had some of the most exciting scorers we’ve ever had here w Lovett, Ponds, Figueroa and Heron.

The end of last season is on Mullin because it has to be, but I’m not gonna act like the last season wasn’t fun. I loved the games I saw at MSG, even if there weren’t enough of them.
I guess the reason some label last year as disappointing when the result, Ncaa bid, obviously wasn't is due in large part to the late season swoon. The great results we had entering the stretch gave the less initiated/less historically minded St. John's fans  unrealistic visions of grandeur that I knew all along would crash like a steel balloon.

There's little legitimate criticism of the previous staff's recruiting. There's lots of legitimate criticism of their results. Their ability to hold on to the recruits they recruited - specifically the big men - is another matter. Certain posters who hated Mullin - like eg one particular poster who stopped posting last year when SJ was 10-0 because he didn't find SJ basketball fun anymore because they were winning - have to denigrate everything about him to justify their hatred. The previous staff failed in various ways but the idea that winning 20 game and making the tournament represents failure is madness.

Hey fxck off and die,
You didn’t acknowledge my previous post. But I mentioned jerry wainwright. I saw him at a coaches clinic years ago. He was a really nice guy. Very helpful to new coaches. Well anyway could you imagine coach Mullins at a coaches clinic.
Mullins could explain:
•why his teams don’t fight for offensive rebounds
• why moving without the ball or running any kind of offense is overrated
• why boxing out is for dummies
• position less and coach less basketball
• he could show young coaches how to say fxck you
• how to coach a team in NY when you live in California
• calling timeouts and making adjustments is a waste of time and just makes the game longer. All you need is to “stay sharp”
• he could conclude with why it’s ok not to try as a coach, especially when your a hero, and you are LEGEND CLASSIC champion

Ps foady,
I did stop posting last year. I was very conflicted. The team was winning but they were playing their usual shitty brand of basketball. Even a rube like me knew it wouldn’t last. Coach 3rd choice has me excited. Maybe we can finally go to a game this year. That’s if you can make it in your wheelchair.

-I thought last year was a disappointment because we could’ve/should’ve done better.

-I don’t buy into the notion of SJU should only be happy with just making the tournament once in awhile should be good enough. Why the hell should the school be in a major conference then? There are similar schools in size and funding that are more successful.

-I believe the major issue has been administrative and the incompetence of school leadership in letting the team rot. How can a team be good if they switch coaches every five years!? I am optimistic...But That phrase is said a lot.

I was on the fence about Lavin being let go. Lavin left himself vulnerable to being let go.  When he was, I was hoping for hopping that the school would I hire Dan Hurley.

I was really hoping this was going to be the year that Mullin take the next big leap. There’s back and force on that on this board. In the end he left himself vulnerable to being in the position of stepping down. I was really sad about that. He has said all the right things but their will always be a slight rift between him and the school. For the the school and its greatest player to have that is sad.

-Anderson is the first XO/System coach we had in awhile, maybe going back to the basics, instead of outside the box flair thinking is what is needed. Also he was fired from his dream job so he has a chip on his shoulder and something to prove. He was already a grinder to begin with.

Hope always springs eternal with coaching changes, I was sad that Mulliin left, I’m optimistic with Anderson. In all honesty I want a coach to last 10 damn years at this school, having a winning record, make the tournament consistently and win some damn games, and give me some hope about going on a March run. That’s all.

Remember at 10-0. You proudly told me that you were right. I don’t remember the exact words but you weren’t nice. 2 months later and your boy was shit canned. For someone so smart how could you not see that coming?

I call bullsh*te.  The team was winning and on a roll and that didn't fit your own personal twisted vision/agenda so you didn't post.  As soon as the team lost you than had something to type about so to the detriment of the board you returned in full force.

Now that the greatest symbol of St. John's basketball ever is gone you're so happy that you've become our most prolific poster.

Remember at 10-0. You proudly told me that you were right.

I was right dummy. The great Coach Mullin took a team of misfit toys and in four short years took them to the promised land and thereafter rode off into the sunset a conquering hero.

Carmine last week you admitted your boy couldn’t teach basketball. Why would you want that guy as your basketball coach? Whatever he did when I was finishing up 1st grade really doesn’t matter. He couldn’t and more importantly wouldn’t do his job as coach here. His abomination of a record speaks for itself. Like I have said 1000 times it was obvious from game 1 he had no business being our coach. I started my crusade to get rid of him 4 years ago, and I am thrilled that he is gone and we have a real coach.
Last year I tried to enjoy the season. Posting on this board isn’t mandatory. I spent like 10 days away. You can love the team, and hate the coach.

Thanks again for an amusing day. You rarely disappoint. I am happy to bash coach Mullins again tomorrow. Instead we could discuss the upcoming season. Up to you. I have plenty of free time at work.

I would like to see the post from last week where I "admitted your boy couldn’t teach basketball." because I don't recall typing that. Till you show it to me I'll just assume as per usual, your lying.

This was posted on Redman. “Not trying to start WWIII here, just figured many of you would be interested. A recent former player gave me some insight on the Mullin era. Apparently Mullin showed up late consistently, no one on the staff even tried except St. Jean (who still wasn't very good but at least tried) and Matt A. Mitch really did do nothing as we suspected. Noted that the staff were good guys but clueless overall. Disorganized, dysfunctional, etc. Also noted that staff left immediately after the NCAA loss and that was the last they saw of them. Just ridiculous really. The former player also said that he thinks this current staff is very good and a massive improvement. Just interesting to hear directly FWIW.”

Although we had a good year for SJU standards, the school deserves better and had to move on.

If it was on RDC it must be true then, everyone there has moles inside the locker room, it's a wonder there's room for the players. Self-important bloviating middle managers, avatar shifters, junior jimmy olsens, flaccid balding Red and White Club members - all of them former coaches it goes without saying - each with their own network of stoolies and tipsters, tirelessly working the phones so that they can breathlessly report the latest news and scoop their rivals. Even 30 year old uber drivers who live with their mothers and go to games and sit in the student section dressed up like Hulk Hogan have a direct line to the highest levels of the administration. In fact here's a photo of one of them sending an encrypted message to one of his double naught spies. It was smuggled out of a basement on long island and passed to me at a double blind drop after three car changes:

This was apparent to anyone paying the slightest bit of attention from day 1. Coach Mullins was the biggest empty suit in sports history.

Point taken however this has often been mentioned about the prior staff so nothing ground breaking there. The source may not be credible, it may be unreliable...but in this instance it may also be true. The face of the program wasn’t pushed out because of his win/loss record.
