Butler with Baldwin, McDermott, Tucker is really good core. Khalif Battle gonna be one of better freshman.

Creighton- Alexander, Ballock, and Mintz is another really experienced core

While I think both are beatable I don't see us sweeping either. I think Marquette is Markus Howard or bust. At least we have 2 horses.

No doubt that both teams are solid. Tucker came out on fire against us last year in Hinkle. I think Anderson puts together a game plan to put the clamps on him.

For Creighton, Epperson could be an X factor with his size. I still think we could sweep them like we did last year.

For whatever reason we usually play Marquette well so yeah maybe we sneak up on them but I still think they finish ahead of us. Sacar Anim is sneaky good. But if I'm Wojo I'm leaning heavily on John and Morrow on the inside. Two beasts that should really get theirs down low against anyone in the BE if used properly.

What is “way over the top” in what I wrote? Finishing 7th? Being more talented than a team that was the last at-large selection in the tournament?

Ponds was awesome. There is no replacing him with one person, but look at the gaping holes after him. We had the worst big man situation of any power 6 team—only made worse by a coach that didn’t stress offensive rebounding. We had no capable backup PG.

You have to assume Heron and Figgy will be better with the extra year. Roberts, Williams, and Earlington should be better and could be way better.

The one big question mark is PG. Anderson put all his eggs in the basket of Rutherford. We had a neon sign inviting every capable grad transfer in the country to come and play 30 minutes and play a major scoring role, but he decided on Rutherford. 2-5 we’ll almost certainly be better.

No I agree we can finish middle of the pack and be in the hunt for the tourney if things break right. I’m talking more about calling us Utah state.
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

My concerns with the team start after this season. JUCOs can work when you have some big time talents. We have them this season with Heron and Figgy. Even Williams to a lesser degree COULD be that type of talent.

I agree Simon would have been a monster this year but he legit might make the Bulls roster this year.

It's funny how people said he'd never be on a nba roster, and now look.

You don’t finish 9th when you have the best returning duo in the league.

This team is more talented, more experienced, more skilled,  bigger, and deeper than last year’s tournament team.  It will also be better coached. The projection should be 7th by quite a wide margin. 5th is in play if a couple things break the right way.

Are you not concerned about pt guard and bigs play?

The loss of McGriff is more significant than you all realize.  Studying his film I see a guy capable of ball distribution.  Dunn and Rutherford are question marks re this skill.  Without a distributor the advantage of having 2 great wings will be minimized.  Maybe someone will step up but maybe is the key word.

Projecting 13-17 overall record (not counting the TBD game vs either Umass or UVA) and 5-13 in Big East.

Yeah, what are we looking at? Did he officially make the Bulls? He’s in their rotation?

Are you not concerned about pt guard and bigs play?

My comments were before the McGriff injury and subsequent redshirt. I was the highest on him of all posters. Everyone predicted between 0-2 ppg for him while I thought he’d be 7 and 4 for us right out of the gate. I love PGs like him and he projected to be our best shooter at the position on top of being the only natural PG.

I was extremely high on Dunn out of high school...I thought he would be an all-conference player at a MAC or perhaps even an A-10 caliber conference. I watched at least 15 games of his in high school scouting Shamorie. I’ve been too lazy to go back and see why I liked him so much but I believe it was athleticism (way more than Shamorie), nonstop motor, and his ability to finish athletically and with coordination. I remember him playing bigger than his listed height as well. He’s definitely not a natural PG...maybe he can be a 20 minute guy if Figgy steps up and runs some point-forward.

I’m high on Steere. I haven’t been this high on a big offensively since Lamont Hamilton. And Sears is my type of PF. If Lavin had a Sears type instead of PFs that wanted to be SGs, he would have won games in March.

I am not high on Rutherford at all. I would be ecstatic to be dead wrong on this. We will have the worst PG play in the conference.

DraftKings sportsbook posted regular season win totals for college basketball teams and they have the line at 14 wins for St. John's. Conference tournaments + postseason don't count.

The only other BE team totals that they have available are Villanova 24.5 and Butler 15.5

Saw that. Hopefully my bookie gets that line. On that site we were -2500 to win big east regular season. Nova was the favorite (something around -120)

If you were seeing -2500 you were being duped.

I can see us going 6-12 in conference.  Maybe 7-11 if we can pull off an upset or two and lose one we shouldn't.  I am going to enjoy this year.  The bar is not that high this year.  The goal is to develop the younger guys.  Get them some quality minutes and experience for next year.

$2500 to win $100? I imagine you meant +2500.

Wish I were your bookie.

Halfway through the season, it is pretty much what the BE preseason poll is saying, and steady as she goes:

1. Seton Hall 77            1. Seton Hall
2. Villanova 76              2. Villanova
3. Xavier 52                  3. Butler
4. Marquette 50            3. Creighton
4. Providence 50           5. Marquette
6. Georgetown 49         6. Providence
7. Creighton 45            7. Xavier
8. Butler 21                 8. Georgetown
9. St. John's 19            9. St. John's
10. DePaul 11              10. Depaul
