I think you can think whatever about any coach but the problem remains in the administration's commitment. Lavin's problems were fixable and he shouldn't have been let go. When you make the move to Mullin you had to know there would be growing pains and they should have stepped in to bridge gaps instead of cut the cord. It's a bad look and it's why no one wanted to come here.

This speaks to the high disfunction of the SJU administration. Lavin was Harrington’s Coach, and Gempesaw has serious doubts about Lavin (some justified), so he let Lavin go.

Gempesaw brought in Mullin, and then hired Cragg and who had doubts about  (some justifies) Mullin.

Mullin wasn’t Cragg’s guy and Gempesaw became hands off of the  and Mullin seeing the writing on the was resigned. This seem to catch Cragg flat footed and Anderson came into the picture...

What SJU M Soccer and Baseball has shown is that when you have a great coach, they can shield their teams from massive admin disfunction.

Over the past 20yrs SJU MBB has shown what happens when you don’t have a great coach in place...

Craggs in place, Anderson in place, so hopefully some some stability can finally be brought in which will help rebuilding the program.

No. because facts matter.  last year nova finished first in the league and was a 6 seed in the ncaa tournament.  they lost two very important players no doubt, but they responded by bringing in 2 5 star recruits and 2 4 star recruits.  I can't believe that you think that is the same as st. john's, which barely made the tourney and had basically no one lined up to replace shamorie ponds, who btw is St. john's 5th ALL TIME leading scorer (and probably would be number 1 if he played 4 years like the guys ahead of him). if you're just going to continue to respond in bad faith don't bother.

Spot on apes, well said. I believe the problem is many on this board choose the blue pill. Clearly they aren’t capable of rational thought. There must be an agenda like Dinks mentioned.

I once mentioned that I'd be fine if the Johnnies recruited and landed Truck Bryant.  He claimed (paraphrased) Bryant should play a notch below the Big East.  I had only seen Bryant play two or three times and knew he could play in the conference.

Any other breaking news from 2006 you care to share?

Two sound posts, apesNapes.  The dude has shit for brains, trolling his own site, has an agenda or all of the above.  I'm leaning to all of the above.  I also noticed fabrication is rampant per a couple folks on here ... Y'all, please don't trust him.

You seem quite obsessed by conspiracy theories ... imagine a college basketball talk forum where people have agendas ... oh my Allah ... my agenda is world domination ;)

Pretty sure Uzi's Persian. Which would that make you the racist. Unless Persian's not a race, in which case that's make you just a putz. Which would be ironic, because putz is Yiddish and Persians are notoriously anti-Semitic.

Maybe he was called a "racist" for something else he said at another time.  Mind your business, loser.

I should get the poster from Redmen to "attack" your cowardly ass again.  Instead of having the balls to fight back you ran like a bitch (like I knew you was one from jumpstreet).  LOL

We have the worst half court offense we’ve had in 20 years and that includes Norm.

You are basing this off of two bad games.  How many horrible losses did Mullin have?  How did we beat Arizona and West Virginia?  And we had a chance to beat Butler who appears to be a very solid top 10 team.  This site is full of chicken littles.  One or two bad losses does not mean the season is over.  Coach Mike has been coaching a long time and has never had a losing record.  I have confidence that he will turn things around.  We may not make the tournament this year but, I expect us to be competitive on a nightly basis.  It may take a few years, but when he has his guys, playing his system I expect good things.

Yea and we were 1 game away from finishing 3rd last year. We've taken a step back just like Nova, Marquette, Butler, Xavier, etc. Probably only teams in conference returning stronger is Seton Hall and Providence.

It's college basketball, turnover is constant.

Do you even follow college basketball?  How has Butler taken a step back?  They are the #6 team in the country and are crushing Providence on the road.

Yeah but they were picked to finish 8th in the conference in October and obviously that's a far better representation of how good they are than their record or the fact they are a top 5-10 team on numerous metrics sites through 15 games.

Butler with a double digit victory over Providence. First 15-1 start in more than a decade. But they were picked to finish 8th in the BE in the preseason.

and he’s operating with the worse roster in the conference.
How and why did the "worse roster in the conference" have projected 20% (2 of 10 - one fifth) of the best 10 players in the conference as voted by the coaches in the BE pre-season poll?

Hopefully the highlight of our conference season isn't going to be a New Year's eve 2 pt. loss to Butler.

Do you not understand that a basketball team consists of more than two players? You are really struggling with this basic concept.

Pre-season awards are based on projected, not actual performance. Let’s see where they end up after the season.

Dave I'm far from a technical hoops expert so won't dive into what we "run" or don't "run".  We have coaches who are experienced and seem to be well though of in the basketball community, whether that be Anderson, Demeo, Van, etc.  So I have to think they know how to coach offense to some degree and attribute the struggles on that end to the lack of PG play and overall lack of offensive skill on what this staff inherited.

Last year we were loaded with offensive talent.  We did seem to have some nice in-bounds plays and designs.  On offense, it frequently ended with a pick and roll up top and someone forcing a shot to the basket or throwing up a 3.  So I'm not sure how much the prior staff ran either, aside from that backdoor alley-oop we tried to run every game and stopped be successful once teams figured it out, and the occasional ISO for Heron or 2-man with Clark where we overloaded the opposite side.

We don't run anything. Nothing. We have 3 guys on the floor who can't score and teams lock in on Heron and LJ.

We have to look at lineup combos a lot better and use guys situationally. No pick and roll, no sets to get a guy to catch a ball in post or in iso for him to do work. If you ran stuff to get Heron to catch ball in post and he can open pivot he'd eat guys for breakfast.

I expect a no comment from Dave on that one. Unless he chooses to lie.
