Jarvis was trending downwards towards the end. His success was in part because of Fran's guys. He did bring in some talent but unfortunately not enough of it developed. Some low character guys aswell. Omar Cook leaving really hurt and set back the program imo. It's similar to what happened with Lovett during the Mullin era. If those guys stay this program wins alot more.
Our program was trending downwards. Our facilities were a joke and our budget was an unmitigated disgrace. Taffner was 10 years too late. Renovations to Alumni Hall were 15 years too late.
It’s a freaking miracle that Jarvis was able to recruit the way he did given the arms race that took place between 1995 and 2005 in college basketball with exponential increases to budgets and facility improvements.
I wish we kept Fran to be honest, but he wanted to go to a state school.
Jarvis wasn’t slowing down with recruiting. He got very unlucky losing Darius Miles to the NBA, losing Omar in the 11th hour to the NBA draft as a freshman, having Barkley ran out of college by the NCAA, and Lenny Cooke not qualifying (he would have under revised rules currently in place).
The guy had MARCUS HATTEN and McDonald’s All-American, Elijah Ingram, on his final team. He also jist added a top 5 JUCO in Rodney Epperson.
The rumors and the nastiness will never stop at St. John’s. That is our problem. Everyone, including relatives and friends of mine, think they deserve a say in what happens.
Firing Jarvis directly led to the scandal and Norm Roberts, and that man killed this program.
