Everyone rubs St. John’s fans and NYC basketball people the wrong way. We couldn’t even get in Fraser’s living room to make his uncle feel insulted today. After Jarvis we needed to hope nobody really wanted a recruit we liked or that we found a 3* diamond in the rough. I mean look at the timeline for Jarvis. One shot from final four in 99. Big East champs in 00. #3 recruiting class in 01. Made the tournament in 02. Recruiting top 75 talent and even McDonald’s All-Americans with no budget.

It’s simple to me...we keep Jarvis and we reach 10 more tournaments with a few deep runs and no scandal.



Jarvis was trending downwards towards the end. His success was in part because of Fran's guys. He did bring in some talent but unfortunately not enough of it developed. Some low character guys aswell. Omar Cook leaving really hurt and set back the program imo. It's similar to what happened with Lovett during the Mullin era. If those guys stay this program wins alot more.

It’s also important to recognize that from the moment Lou Carnesecca announced his retirement, the University has guessed wrong every single time on their coach.
Perhaps.  Yet firing the last two coaches following seasons they reached the promised land didn't allow us to know with certainty we guessed wrong.

Not sure if it's true or not - but rumor has it the real secret to Jarvis' success here was his outstanding student team management staff.

They had to be fired. They stopped working. Only the President can get away with that shit.

We all have convenient memories. Jarvis couldn’t connect with NYC talent. He wouldn’t play the game with coaches and recruits. I can appreciate that, but then you better f’n win, and he certainly didn’t have another plan. If he wasn’t such an arrogant prick, he’s still be a St.John’s.

I don’t really ever agree with Poison since he is a socialist. The problem with the program is the folks who make the decisions don’t have two pennies to rub together. I can’t stand the holier than now by the board. When we lose the excuse is everyone is dirty and we are clean. That’s just bullshit! Pitino should’ve been hired once Repole aired our laundry. Instead, the Board knew if they hired Anderson or Jones no one would criticize in current climate. It’s never about winning with our program. I’m not expecting to win a national championship or go to a final four. All I want is be able to meet up with my friends at sweet 16 every 4 yrs or so. Get to the Friday night of Big East Tournament.

He brought in locals but he did become disinterested. He had Omar Cook, Willie Shaw, Kyle Cuffe, Eric King, Elijah Ingram, Lamont Hamilton, Showtime Hill, Alpha, Sharif Fordham and a few others. These guys never really developed either.

Jarvis was a prick. Maven and his son are the only people that liked the guy on campus, including his players.

Lavin brought in Myles Stewart to add to what was supposed to be the culmination of four years of hard work. He had some talent coming in, but after four years, there was no system of any kind in place. It was sign whoever we could. A lot of kids don’t like that.

With Mullin, we were losing Shamorie anyway. Probably losing Simon, too.

Not you, but the lack of talent folks seem to have forgotten that Norm Roberts and Steve Lavin recruited the same amount of NBA players.

The problem isn’t 20 years of players. The problem is there hasn’t been a system in place to develop the players that our coaches choose for their program.

Look at Boeheim, Calhoun, they recruited a different type of player for many years, and over time, they started to get blue chip recruits who fit their coach’s mold, because that kid could see how they’d fit in.

We have to show NYC kids that this tough guy approach can work by playing a shit ton tougher than we have been. Let’s see if Coach Anderson is up to it. Long way to go.

Our program was trending downwards. Our facilities were a joke and our budget was an unmitigated disgrace. Taffner was 10 years too late. Renovations to Alumni Hall were 15 years too late.

It’s a freaking miracle that Jarvis was able to recruit the way he did given the arms race that took place between 1995 and 2005 in college basketball with exponential increases to budgets and facility improvements.

I wish we kept Fran to be honest, but he wanted to go to a state school.

Jarvis wasn’t slowing down with recruiting. He got very unlucky losing  Darius Miles to the NBA, losing Omar in the 11th hour to the NBA draft as a freshman, having Barkley ran out of college by the NCAA, and Lenny Cooke not qualifying (he would have under revised rules currently in place).

The guy had MARCUS HATTEN and McDonald’s All-American, Elijah Ingram, on his final team. He also jist added a top 5 JUCO in Rodney Epperson.

The rumors and the nastiness will never stop at St. John’s. That is our problem. Everyone, including relatives and friends of mine, think they deserve a say in what happens.

Firing Jarvis directly led to the scandal and Norm Roberts, and that man killed this program.

Jarhead inherited an NCAA team and bequeathed his successor a 20-loss team on NCAA probation. Norm Roberts inherited a 20-loss team on NCAA probation and bequeathed his successor an NCAA tournament team.

You described the current leading cause of death in America (eclipsing perennial favorites cancer and heart disease) on a daily, weekly and monthly basis - an illness that's killed more US citizens in 9 months than 4 years of World War II as a "mundane virus".  Check with your editor.  It might have been a misprint.

Norm Roberts coached the same tournament team (with a 5th year Mase Jr.) to a 6-12 conference record. He was 6-12 the year before that too with the core as sophs and no Mase Jr., no Dwight Hardy, and no Justin Brownlee. If he couldn't improve with 8 guys becoming juniors, getting his best player back from injury as a 5th year senior and addding Brownlee and Hardy, what makes you believe he would have improved the year after? 

I won't even give credit to Lavin, we were good the 2010-2011 season because we had an assistant coach that was a goddamn maestro.

I know you don't like Jarvis at all, but he recruited well and his teams always played great defense and hit the boards exceptionally well. He missed on some big men like all coaches do, but if you keep landing top 60 recruit bigs you will hit more than you miss. He recruited top 75 Lamont Hamilton his last season and Hamilton went on to be All Big East.  He also recruited Showtime Hill his last season and Showtime was ranked top 25 in at least one ranking if my memory is correct and also went on to be All Big East.

Jarvis never stopped recruiting well. His last three classes included Marcus Hatten, Showtime, Elijah Ingram (McDonald's All-American and two-time NCAA tournament starter), Rodney Epperson, and Lenny Cooke.  Before that it was Omar Cook and like six top 75 recruits.

Lenny Cook was a great talent and would have loved to see him suit up for St. John's but in reality he didn't have prayer of even making it into a junior college.

He would have under the rules that have been in place over the last decade or so. Cooke was really f*cking good.  I saw him play at ABCD. He was a top 5 player in that class without a doubt. Leaving Northern Valley High School and the family that was looking after him was what ruined him. Up until that point Jarvis taking a chance on him was a good gamble. Losing him and Miles plus Barkley and Omar is just to much for a program like St. John's. 

We haven't been in a position to gamble on a top 5 kid like Lenny Cooke since Jarvis.
Even if fans hate him personally, I just don't see how anyone could look back at the sh*tshow that followed his dismissal and not see that it was a clear mistake.

Showtime, Elijah Ingram, and Lamont Hamilton would have been an NCAA caliber roster with the kind of JUCOS and top 75 high school players Jarvis would have added.

I'm excised the remainder of your long non-sequitur. Because I didn't say anything about Norm's coaching. I merely pointed out that Jarhead took a 20 win team and in five years turned it into a 20 loss team on NCAA probation and facing a threat of death penalty from Father Harrington, which decline Norm reversed. That he didn't make it over the hump personally doesn't belie that. And in fact any incompetence on Norm's part as coach buttresses the argument that he "bequeathed" his successor an NCAA tournament team, because the team's lack of success in his last year would have been at least in part the result of his lack of coaching ability.

Do you know and speak to anybody working in a metro area hospital? I do. I don't know what I know from watching Cnbc an Fox.  I get it straight from the horses mouth.

Don't kid yourself. Nothing's been seen like this since 1919. It's too bad it had to happen in an election year or you might not be living in the fantasy world in which you and half the country are. But more people are converting everyday as they and their families catch it.
