Our roster is significantly better than last year. On paper we don't appear to have any weaknesses. Maybe I'm alone in this but I think Posh is going to make a huge jump and we'll have two all BE players, surrounded by the most complete and versatile roster in a long time. More then half the team are nyc or surrounding area kids, chemistry will come naturally.

- I love the Soriano signing and think he is a significant upgrade. But we needed a center regardless of who stayed and who left. Really excited for him.

- Love the Smith signing. We needed shooting next to Posh and he has shown over his career to be a really good one. And more than that.

- The Mathis and Wheeler signings I like. They have size and athleticism plus BIG10 experience on NCAA teams. I am however not sure they are upgrades over Williams and Earlington. Defensively I could see it. Offensively you could make the case, but IMO it’s not a definite upgrade there. Their shooting %’s are closer to scary than they are exciting.

- I think we are a backcourt difference maker away from calling this a “definite” upgraded roster but that’s just my opinion. Right now we brought in two backcourt players who both had more turnovers than assists last year. And that was in slower paced more meticulous offensive systems. In our uptempo system, all of Dunn, Williams, Wusu, and Posh had more assists than turnovers. Just something worth mentioning IMO.

Think the staff has done a good job in this crazy atmosphere and excited to see if the next piece has the potential to put us over the top.
*wipes ketchup from his eyes* - I guess Heinz sight isn’t 20/20.

I think a lot of my expectations are based on my belief they Posh and JC are going to make huge jumps this year.

Don’t know if JC has another “Jump left in him”. Hope he improves in some areas but you’re not gonna get much better than what we had last year. Think about Ponds after his sophomore year.

JC and Posh just need to continue doing their thing. Their performance is right where it needs to be. The big question is the supporting cast. I think it's better than last year's. Let's wrap it up with two more solid additions.

I'm also not sure how much of a jump you can expect between those two.  Champ was already a first team all conference caliber player and Posh couldn't have played better defensively.  I expect them to make more of their three pointers, though, and Wusu as well.  I've seen some people question his shooting on the other board lately, and I find it puzzling.  He has the look of a kid that will be flirting with 40% in the next two years.

I think the two biggest weaknesses we had were a big of legitimate size and Cole not being anywhere near as good as the staff (and Marillac) hoped.  Anderson usually hits on that type of player.

So, we've added Soriano to take care of one weakness, but the other is still waiting to be remedied.  I just don't love Stef Smith's stats.  He's listed at just 6'2 yet doesn't pickup steals or make assists? I like the shooting %'s and what I see from him on tape there, but I don't see how a kid listed at 6'2 averages a 1.6 : 2.0 assist to turnovers and just .6 steals a game in 30 minutes against weak competition?

What I do like is a fast/defensive team of Posh-Mathis-Wusu-Champ-Wheeler for stretches. I think we can get a lot of easy points with that squad.

I have same questions about backcourt addition but I liked smith from the start. Need shooting. Look at his per100 possession stats they are pretty serious.

It’s Mathis’ stats that worry me. From just the numbers, there is nothing on the offensive end that I can find as an upgrade. Defensively and size wise I can see how it makes us better. But it’s not like Williams was a bad defender or much shorter. There were 3 guards on Rutgers who averaged more than 1 steal a game and Mathis wasn’t one of them. Plus I worry about putting not shooters around Posh even if him and wusu become more consistent from deep. And the %’s are ..not great to say the least.

Hopefully the uptempo system unlocks something and he is able to make a difference for us.

If Posh is to have a future playing hoops he must shot the ball better.

What's nonsense?
'Final 4 caliber' and 'BE tournament final'

This is about St. John's outlook for next season. His future playing hoops beyond that is irrelevant to next year's squad.

I noticed you didn't consider the part where I told you to stop being such a miserable prick and take your viagra to be nonsense. Kind of says it all right there.

Goes without saying a completely different level than what’s been added already. Potential game changer.

Fingers crossed there's actual fire with this smoke. Would elevate this roster to the next level. We'll see

Mathis has some puzzling stats...absolutely.  The shooting %s are just awful.  I like what I see with him form the limited tape I've viewed. He seems to have good feet and hips...he stays in front of guys.  The steals thing could be him to picking guys pockets or jumping lanes.  The same can be said about Stef Smith as well.

Mathis seems like a Jarvis kid to me.  A guy who will be physical, defend, and inconsistent on offense. Guys like that get you into the dance if you have a few scorers around them. Those kinds of guys bothered me at the time, but I've been longing for them for 15 years now.

I think this style will suit him better.  He could see a lot of easy baskets with the right group around him.  Posh-Mathis-Wusu-Champ-Wheeler?  Let's go!

I’m certainly not complaining about the additions. But that lineup you just listed is 4 guys who shot sub 30 from 3 last year. Don’t see many lineups without 2 of Posh and wusu/Mathis so need one of those guys to be a legitimate 35 % shooter for us to maximize posh’s potential. I think wusu can bring that % up.

I’d agree that Mathis’ form looks better than a sub 30% shooter. And he’s definitely comfortable putting them up. That can be a good thing or a bad thing. Hopefully the uptempo system and CMA make him a useful player on that end of the court.

Teams would have nightmares bringing the ball up the court with Posh and Alvarado...
