Another to Watch:
Much like Mike Davis of SHU, Ayodele Coker of St. John’s learned much more is needed than mere size to be successful in the Big East. Players need to be conditioned and able to move their feet offensively and defensively to be in position to score or avoid foul trouble. It is a rough lesson for many big freshman to adjust to the speed and athleticism of the opposition. ‘Dele’, according to reports, has taken steps to improve his chances of being an impact big man by slimming down on working to improve his footwork to stay on the floor longer. We always though Coker had the potential to be a solid big man, but it will take development and patience to get to that point, this should be a step forward this year, maybe a big step.

nah just can't be a break out player neither can mase. It has to be some one that was quiet last year

I agree kob.... like i told u guys MONTHS ago... Coker, Kennedy, Horne, Evans & Jasilonis were on campus the entire summer working on their games & hitting the weights.. 8) .. however, if i had to pick a "break out" player i'd go with my boy DJ.. ;D .. peace!

Burrell, DJ, & Horne all just need to play like they have 1 more year experience,
and that's what I expect.

Coker,  Evans, & Rob T, though, I expect to show the most improvement.

In terms of stat improvement, Coker & Rob should lead (most room for improvement)

Justin needs to rebound better, take better shots (less outside) & get to F/T line more.
Your best big man can't shoot 41% & take 3 F/t per game (JB)

I guess its a good thing though that we could name 5 guys who we think could improve tremendously from last season.

It is given that mase, burrell, will be better. DJ may be the breakout player, but im guessing horne will be the most improved player.

I think Horne's success will rely heavily on how much speed the offense picks up. If we are slow and run half court sets like we did last season I don't think Horne will be significantly improved. If we get out and run I think Paris could be huge.

Right on point JJ.  Geno's style hurt Horne last year (but should have helped JB).

With Boothe (backed up by Ty), should be more fast break oppertunities

Horne's numbers aren't bad, he just didn't play a lot of minutes.  I'm defining breakout as a player putting up numbers they wouldn't have in the same minutes.  By that token I'd say Coker is a guy I would like to see break out; Mason won't be that much better; DJ wasn't bad going to the basket but some of his games where he was playing with Mase he didn't seem to know how and when to assert himself offensively; and Burrell really could break out, he's got better skills than shooting in the 40%'s and not drawing fouls.

I agree he did better statistically out of conference play but his role also changed when Mason returned. He did disappear for a stretch in the middle of the season but finished strong. He played awesome at Duke and his final 3 games of the season he scored in double digits against SHU, ND, WVU. Also DJ was huge in the win against SHU he had 5 steals that game. Also don't look only at DJ's scoring he does a lot of other things that do and don't show up in the boxscore.

Also majority of players around the country who play in power conferences see better numbers in the beginning of the season in OOC play thats just a fact of college basketball.
