Visitor from the Seton Hall community...first-time poster...longtime admirer of what St. John's has meant to NYC area hoops...As a teenager, I was at the Holiday Festival game against the unbeaten Indiana team...one of the best games that Hoosiers team was given all year.

My favorite pure shooter was Rick Mount from Purdue, class of '70...the year Maravich came out. Calvin Murphy and Geoff Petrie from that year were great shooters as well, but no one was like Mount.
I've included a video from Mount's days at Lebanon High, about 90 seconds long. Nice shooting near the end, perfect form, unreal range. He scored 61 in a game at Purdue. With the three-pointer, it would have been 74.

Great call on Tony Bennett. I saw him go bonkers against Manhattan in an NIT game while playing with a bad back.
Mullin had tremendous touch from wherever he shot the ball. Bill Schaefer had quite a shooting year for the Johnnies as a senior.
At Seton Hall, the best I've seen was Randy Duffin, a 6-3 forward in the mid-70s.
Along with some already mentioned, there was Allan Hornyak (Ohio State), Joey Hassett (Providence), Kevin Houston (Army), Walter Davis, Dell Curry, Brian Winters. Stephon Curry certainly joins his dad.
I saw Randy Woods from LaSalle have some huge shooting games, but was he ever a hog.
Among the big men: Robert McAdoo, Bob Lanier.

Check out the Mount clip...from back in the days when kids practiced shooting.

Great post jimsouls! Wasnt the Jimmy Chitwood character in "Hoosiers" loosely based on Mount? I think I remember reading Kevin Houston leading the NCAA in scoring?

Marco, Chitwood was based on a '50s kid named Bobby Plump.
Yeah, Houston led the NCAA in scoring one year. I saw him light up the Hall for about 45 one night.
Mullin was amazing. The best local college player I ever saw.

I just now found this...the real Bobby Plump story...5 minutes...

jimsouls, which Seton Hall boards do you read, if any? A few of them are pretty good...

Shawn Respert - Michigan State

Matt Freije -Vandy

Eddie House- ASU

Tracy Murray-UCLA

Kiwane Garris -Illinois
Attack basketball, pressure defense, 40 minutes of hell ... Early on it might be 30 minutes of hell, then 10 minutes of what the hell are you doing?"

Pretty good list there too. Murray and Abdul-Rauf had nice careers in NBA too. House and Dickau have been nice backups too.

I wouldn't put this guy ahead of anyone already mentioned, but he was VERY good and hit some CLUTCH shots in the ACC tourney:

Randolph Childress

I love that clip of him taunting the guy on (I think UNC) and then drilling the 3.

Good call. Best West Point player since my namesake, Bill Hannon, was a 3x All-American from 51-54.  Proud to say he averaged 20.9 rebounds per game in 52!
