When this team gets zoned, not really sure how they will score! Besides the fact that no one on this team can shoot at all, Boothe will have a hard time seeing over any zone where the guards up top meet the height requirements to get on a roller coaster at Great Adventure.

Even if Patterson, Wright and Mase were far from lights out, they at least had potential to get hot and hit a couple of threes. Opposing teams had to at least pay attention to where they were. There is not ONE guy on this team dangerous from three!

I think we should start focusing on getting the ball down low. If you can get the ball to Sean Evans and he can reverse pivot and face up then I like our chances. There aren't too many guys who can defend him one on one also if help comes the weak side big is wide open under the basket(we saw this happen a few times last night). Our bigs are unselfish too.

Rob T and Evans were 9-12 from the floor last night. We were also 5-21 from 3 point land. Its not rocket science on what we need to do.

I think this team has move the ball better and quicker against the zone. One thing is for sure is we're going to get tons of practice against the zone because every team is going to play it against us.

You know, though, I think the team played better against a zone than I've seen them play in Norm's time here.  The fact that guys can't can jump shots, running jumpers, and lay-ups... all I'm saying is that game was winnable.

You don't HAVE to fire away threes against a zone, but they were packed in deep and had WIDE open looks. Yes it is possible to get the ball down low against a zone, but here is where Boothe's Gary Coleman stature comes into play. It is hard for him to see over the top and if you noticed he was forced to move back well behind the three point line just to have some space to see over the top.

THe foul line is open all day. Feed the ball to the high post and turn towards the basket

What big man do you want shooting that foul line jumper? And again Boothe is forced to start the offense too far out, that is why the ball was going side to side. That foul line jumper would be available if it was coming from the wing, but not a good shot for Evans, Thomas, Burrell or any of the stiff centers.

I agree it was a good move to stick a big man at the top of the zone. I think it's something we looked a little surprised and perhaps took us out of rhythm a bit but I don't think Malik's height had everything to do with the struggles.

Doesnt have to be a big man. When the ball swings, the weakside wing cuts to the middle looking for the ball

I don't mind Burrell shooting it from there or even Dele who actually has nice touch from there.

If they had someone that could hit the three form the wing, Malik's height would not be that much of a hinderance as the wing defender was pinching to the middle in case Boothe drove. They had good shots, they just can't shoot!

All the basketball points you guys bring up in attacking a zone a very good and will work when you have the players to execute them.

BUT, the team will not be able to execute any of this against the bigger, stronger and longer players in the conference.

If the team doesn't have one person on the roster that teams MUST respect from 3pt land they are screwed.

i thought wait had a jumper.

i know it's way late for experimentation...but shouldn't they try him  at the top of the key??

Ideally, you'd like to have a few zone busters, but I believe that is what Norm Roberts was trying to establish by playing his three best shooters, the non-NYers, Horne, Roberts, and Kennedy, against the 2-3 midway through the second half.

I guess you could say Quincy was busting the zone by throwing the ball to the other team... I KID!

that is the problem...    Norm is trying to establish this with people that other teams have no respect for as outside shooters...

Norm doesn't do a good job at all with zones from typical man to man teams, but he actually does a pretty decent job when attacking zones from teams that we all expect to zone him.

Norm seems unable to adjust during games and his teams seem unprepared to handle changes on the fly.

If I was a coach I would be changing up defenses on him all the time and especially out of STJ called timeouts.  Imagine the look on his face when Norm's already jumbled plan to attack a man to man faces a 2-3 or 3-2 zone :) Priceless.
