Rutgers

Im watching them vs Pitt right now and it certainly looks like there are alot of students in the stands. Isnt it still Christmas break? Why dont St Johns students attend games and cheer on their fellow classmates? Rutgers is in a similar situation as St Johns regarding the hoops team and coach, so how do they continue to get the student and crowd support and St Johns doesnt? Please no more Norm posts, its been beaten to death

One thing is, RU is a state school. Which means a lot more students live close to the school (within the state), while St.Johns is a private school and is more likely to have students from all over the country.

Don't think the second part is true.  St. John's is a mostly regional draw on the educational side... but St. John's tix are pricey and the team is tough to watch (because they lose.  Wisconsin and Southern Illinois are boring as hell but they win after bludgeoning the opponent).

ahhh...I said more likely, and even if it's regional. It's still a larger draw than Rutgers which is more local or state.

That runs contrary to the frequent rationalization that St. John's can't attract students to the game, due to being a majority commuter school of 14k undergrads.
