the time has come
« on: January 20, 2009, 06:05:39 PM »
As a long time fan it kilLs me to watch us get blown out the way we have been lately.I go back to the Sonny Dove era and in all those years I have never felt like this.I know that Norm Roberts cleaned up Jarvis mess and I appreciate what he did but that is behind him know it is time to make a change.Doesnt anyone realize what SJU means to N.Y. anymore. It gave us a sense of pride,it gave us a swagger, we had the Garden we were it every H.S. player wanted to play there. Now it has become a joke the time has come to thank Norm Roberts and bring real basketball people back.Lets give SJU back to N.Y.

Just curious, what do you have in mind? Coaching changes? If so, than who?
I dont think playing at the Garden is the draw it used to be, these kids play in bigger arenas in High School and AAU games. And the St Johns fan base has become an embarasment

I agree with you but the time came three years ago.

GIVE ME NAMES!?!?!...you want names of people that could coach this team better...give me your address, ill mail u a phonebook...u say u want names like if cal or pitino dont come here then we shouldnt get anyone else, like there arent 100 better people for this job...st johns isnt a draw anymore?...we are a god $#%@ laughing stock and kids like stephenson, sly, fields, walker, etc etc etc are/were still interested and the only thing keeping them from comming is roberts cant win...he just cant win...what do we have? 3 star recruits galore, and he cant win...go look at some of the teams in the ncaa that are winning or that have won big with 3 star recruits, OR WORSE!...even if he gets stephenson, and then starts getting other 5 stars, whats gonna happen when we lose game after game we should have won...when we lose a big game in the tournament bc he got outcoached yet again...im sick of this attitude from people on this site where someone says we need a new coach and they act like the person saying that is a jackass, and demand names

Ok, lay off the roids. Do you think the school is going to pay for a bigtime coach? Oh and who do you want to coach this team?

He'd come cheaper than the big names, and he'd be a winner for the next 34 years here.

He's been a head coach for a year and a half.  He inherited one of the best situations you could ever ask for.  We need a proven entity, not somebodoy that is playing with another coach's players.

The man can coach and you know what?  There will be better offers than a cheapo one coming from St. John's if he wants to take it.  Stevens won't come as cheap, maybe more expensive than Keno Davis.

Hate Norm or Love him the administration loves him so he isnt going anywhere.  Personally I want him gone but I have sent numerous emails and convinced my dad to stop donating money to the school but guess what nothing has changed and it wont for awhile.  Why do we need to rehash this new coach crap after everytime we lose?

Harrington made this mess. Not Jarvis.

bc the coach is the reason we lose every game, in more ways than one...also it was the person first post on the site, so maybe he was getting a little something off his chest...if hes a fan of this team, i think he deserves to let off some steam

If the administration loves him, then they are the evil that has caused this mess. They deserve more of the blame than Roberts. Norm is terrible, but he's doing the best he can.

The administration, clearly isn't.

And the St Johns fan base has become an embarasment

NO NO NO. . the fan base is NOT an embarrassment...  the fan base has gone from hopefully about the hiring of Norm Roberts..  to frustrated with his obvious lack of X&O ability...   to even more frustrated with his lack of success on the recruiting trail... to just angry about being an after thought in the world of college basketball now...

The adminstration's lack of caring about the success of the basketball program is the embarressment..

The fans that are complaining today are the same fans that gave the kids who were left after the PITT scandal a standing ovation in MSG the game after the scandal..    they are the same fans that had high hopes for Norm Roberts when he made the statement that city kids would not be leaving the city for other programs anymore...  they are the same fans that would be happy with mild success at this point..  in year 5 people would actually be thrilled with an NIT bid...

They are the same fans that have heard the same tired and worn out excuses from a coach that has failed at every important aspect of his job and is just in over his head as a head basketball coach in the Big East...   they are the same fans that while they might be bitching and moaning and complaining about the current status of the program, they are among the 3,000 or so fans that attend the games and care enough to post on the various boards...

The fans have been pushed away by a terriblle play. . terrible coaching and terrible results. . if the team was strong MSG & CA would be packed all the time.

Agreed at this point ANYONE ELSE would be a huge improvement! Why just last night I went to my nephew's CYO game and they were running plays, actual plays. If the admin does not want to buck up for a name coach I think they should just hire a coach who agrees to run plays, not that side to side passing thing Norm's teams do. So I nominate my nephew's CYO coach as a candidate.

Just as well as Norm considering his best players are from Delaware, Pitt and Philly ;)

I'm sure I'll draw some ire for this... but I have no problem with the non-NY team.  The team's like Manhattan - nobody's from New York City!  Of course, if that was by design and the players were all-conference, it would hardly be an issue.

Would be tough to rely on out of state kids and be competitive in the BE becuase as you have mentioned, we are not exactely getting the top out of state talent. To truly be successful we would need to keep a couple of the bigger NYC recruits and then complement them with out of state and under recruited NYC kids.
