Kennedy means everything
« on: January 23, 2009, 12:13:32 AM »
I put money on Cincy and I was hoping for STJ to lose so Norm would get canned, so the following should mean that much more coming from me:  I think we win this game if DJ doesn't get thrown out.

He is just so good in traffic with 50/50 balls and every rebound near him is his.  He sets up the offense in Boothe's absence, and almost every shot Horne makes comes off a wide open look from a DJ drive and dish or off a DJ defensive rebound and push.

We were winning when DJ got tossed and even though Bishop was playing very well for them, I knew I won my bet the moment he left the game. I thought the techs were poorly handled by both teams and the officials.

When your player gets a tech you get him away from everythign immediately and tell him to shut the f*ck up.  There should have been six guys and no less than three coaches pushing him away to the end of the bench and/or getting in between.  Even worse for Bishop and Cincy.  The kid was basically on the STJ bench.

I agree with your comment about the technicals being handled poorly. Plenty of blame to go around on that one. And I hate that when the zebras let a game get out of hand, they think the best way to regain control is to call every ticky tack foul for the next 5 minutes.

Why didn't they separate the teams after the tech was called? Why was Cincy right up at our bench?

the ref actually told me "its not my job to control the benches" so i guess you can't blame him for the players still being around one another.

i personally put most of the blame there on all of our assistants, players, and then anyone associated with cincy.  why was that guy still by our bench?  Our players were just stupid enough to instead of stop DJ, keep jawing iwth the guy who then made sure to bump DJ .  I have no clue what started the whole thing, but after DJ popped that 3 he went right at him with crazy screaming (and i feel like i've never heard dj speak in 2 years much).

Norm can't get much of blame for this as he was at the table sorting through the techs, but someone from our bench had to control dj, who is now obviously our best guy.  After the game I heard that Norm was trying to take Dj out and for some reason the ref wouldn't let him ... then bam, the T.

I really want to know what Bishop said before because i haven't seen guys on our team get that wild over something.  Mase was getting raedy to hobble over to the tunnell and try and kick his ass.

I don't know.  Cincy was right in their face, I agree.  I think if the power hungry refs just took a moment to separate the teams and issue warnings, things would have been fine.  These are 20 year old kids fired up for a minute or two.  It wasn't like they were throwing punches or even pushing.

All you have to do is tell the coaches they have 20 seconds to get their teams under control or their players are getting tossed.  Then, talk to each team and tell them that any hint of a problem and they are gone.  Problem solved.

yes kennedy absolutely means a lot and the techs definitely threw sju wayyyyyy off their rhythm and the behavior of the officials was definitely way out of line, but thats a game that sju has to win.

shooting 14-31 from the line will lead to a loss to any decent opponent. period.

DJ is a important player, but he does not mean everything, he only had six points.  But he still is a great player and when he got thrown out the game got out of hand.
