Lance is coming...?
« on: February 20, 2009, 09:59:04 AM »
I've had my ear to the ground, and various people connected to top NY programs have said that "Lance is definitely going to St. John's."

Now I'm hearing this through 1 or 2 middlemen, so take it for what you will - but these are big time programs that it is coming from.

I still think Norm needs to go even if we sign Lance - but I think CM and FH will keep Norm around again if Lance comes.

The best thing about Lance coming, is it puts a definitive do or die on Norm's tenure. CM and FH obviously must think Lance could propel us to NCAA OR start a pipeline of top talent coming to NYC. If that happens, then Norm probably can't mess it up enough to miss the dance. If it DOESN'T happen (which I think is far more likely), they get rid of Lance after next year. The "foundation" are juniors, Mase will be back, and we'll have the superstar. It's NCAA's + multiple top 100 kids signing on the dotted line or nothing after next year if Norm doesn't go...

To be honest, as much as Norm HAS to go, at least if we get Lance and Norm stays around going to st. John's games will be fun again and there will be some juice - hopefully more fans will show up.

Do not misinterpret this post - I WANT Norm gone regardless. But if Norm's staying, I'd rather it be with Lance and turn this into a do-or-die coaching scenario, then just a "building process." Lance raises the expectations for Norm. That's EXACTLY what we need if the Adminsitration is not ready to get rid of Norm after this season.

I hope you're right about Lance coming here, but this season was do-or-die. As long as Norm is coaching, St. John's will underachieve with any given group of players.

I'm not sure I agree with that statement entirely, and I admit that for a while I did feel that way, but he really doesn't have a lot of talent.

The bigger problem now isn't even his coaching. It's his judgement. His ability to evaluate talent. He chose Phil Wait, Tyshawn Edmonson and Q and that is basically the reason why we are not an NIT team.

Give us Truck Brant and another shooter, and we might a be couple of wins better. Who knows.

Jury is still out on the freshman. All along we've said Phil Wait would not contribute this year and he'd be more of a factor this year, QR was going to be the most ready while Ty has some potential. I think the easiest solution is to have Mason Jr. walk on next year. I really hope this is the case.

I was hopeful when I thought it was down to us and Kansas but lately it seems he has opened up his list a bit which is not good news IMHO.

Lance commiting would definitely give this program a much needed jolt.

Please, Dave.  Ask our most talented player to walk on?  Ask Norm Roberts' BUDDY Anthony Mason to pay for his own kid?  Not happening - and it shouldn't happen.

Just shoe Wait and Edmondson out the door like we've always done.  We don't need either of them.  And we need more schollies open anyways.

I think Wait, Ty Ed, and Quincy all leave...      not heard a word, just my opinion...

Writing is on the wall that Edmondson & Roberts are going to be stapled to the bench the next two years, especially if Lance is in a SJU uniform next year.

I can see Wait and Ty...but why Q?  The kid can play.  I'm not saying over Lance but he should see time and has seen a lot of time his Freshman year.

I agree about Q to some extent.  He won't see much time next year with Lance, Paris, DJ, Dwight,  Omari, and Mase Jr. all taking up his time.  But with Mase gone after next year and possibly Lance too, he might see more time in his junior and senior seasons.  I say he sticks around but the other two leave.

Never said he couldn't play but there is going to be massive log jam for minutes at wing postions next year and will be worse if they sign Lance. I just think Quincy & Ty Ed are w/out a doubt the odd men out in rotation next year. Why spend a year not playing when you can transfer, not play anyway, and still have 3 years of eligibilty.

Unless Quincy steps down to a lower conference...He's gonna have competition for playing time whereever he ends up.  He got time this year and showed he can play on this level.  I don't see him going anywhere.

McD AA's sit on Carolina's bench,  Sometimes, a kid has to wait his turn.  If Quincy wanted to be "the man", I'm sure there are lots of other places where that could have happened.  Jumpinjohnny is right.  Unless he steps down, he will always have competition for playing time.

I go to school in in the city in Harrisburg PA and all the talk around here is that Q loves playing at Saint John's
