EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – In advance of the team’s move to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in 2011, the Nets will give New York City basketball fans a special in-person preview by playing one of their pre-season home games for the 2009-10 season on the campus of St. John’s University in Queens, NY.
The Nets will play the Philadelphia 76ers at Carnesecca Arena at St. John’s on Friday, October 23.
“We are excited to continue to further regionalize the franchise and to bring our team and our brand to New York City and St. John’s for a pre-season game for next season,†said Nets CEO Brett Yormark. “This game will give many new fans an opportunity to come watch us play. Clearly, Queens is a borough where we expect great support for the Nets when we move to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in 2011.â€
“We appreciate the chance to host the Nets for a game at St. John’s and to give our students an opportunity to see an NBA basketball game on campus,†said Chris Monasch, St. John’s Athletic Director. “While this is the Nets’ first pre-season game at Carnesecca Arena, it should be noted that there are long-time connections between the team and our school – Louie Carnesecca, himself, is a former coach of both the Nets and St. John’s.â€
Nets season ticket holders will have the option, but will not be required, to purchase tickets for the game. They will, however, have the opportunity to purchase game tickets in advance of the general public. Tickets for the general public will go on sale in the early fall. Tickets for the game at St. John’s will be available at the St. John’s box office and through the Nets ticket office.
