out of you guys. We had more threads started tonight about Ced Jackson(3 and 2 of them were in the wrong area of the forum) then we did about our own guys and winning our first game in the BET since 2003. LOL unreal.

This rolls back to the level of excitement, or lack of excitement created by the program over the past 3 years.

No doubt it was a great win yesterday but the fan base has been pushed into a coma by the the team's performance and the Adminstrations obvious lack of giving a $hit about the fans.

I think a majority of fans are more bummed that it is pretty much certain that Norm Roberts will continue to lead the program.

There is no doubt that the team improved this year but I think they only excitement that could create any real buzz around the program would be a coaching change or signing Lance Stephenson.

Cedric deserved his own thread after the way SJU ripped him for the two years he was here, and the year he sat out at Cleveland State.

I wonder how college basketball have even heard of Cleveland State?

Little point guard Mouse Mcfadden led them to the sweet 16 one year I believe! I think they might have beaten Pearl Washington and Cuse that year.
Rollie Massimino also coached there.

i know right, dave...i guess for some reason we just thought it was a bigger story that a nobody on our team transferred out to a small conference school, then over the next 3 years became their best player, led them to a conference tournament title, over a 16th ranked team who was the favorite, in the process winning the tournaments most valuable player, than a team finishing 13th in the conference knocking off a team finishing 12th, in the first round of the big east tournament...im not knocking our guys, but seriously, whats the bigger story

I'm not diminishing the story but to create 3 threads on it is overkill. Also everyone rides Ced's jock now that he is gone but when he was here he was deemed terrible and I still don't think Ced is that great. He is in the Horizon league woopty doo. I think on a St. John's website the bigger news would be about St. John's not Cleveland St. (who?)

Syracuse lost to richmond. never to cleveland state.

and for the record, I went to yesterday's game and it was great. Whenever it looked like GTown was going to flip a switch, we answered the call. Made key baskets. Held onto the ball late. And knocked down free throws.

Burrell had a better game than it seemed. He was able to draw non shooting fouls on the baseline almost at will, but then he picked up his 2nd with just under 11 minutes to go and had to sit.

Horne was the player of the game. He kept us in it with Burrell benched, and in he 2nd half when Kennedy was out after colliding with the ref.

well its not...Georgetown sucked this year, pretty badly...it was a nice win, but we didnt knock off a good team...they finished one spot ahead of us in the big east and considering 99% of posters on this site thinks that our finish was garbage, them one spot ahead doesnt lead me to believe anyone else thinks that win yesterday was a program saver...let roberts beat marquette today, and then, even if ced joins nasa and goes to mars where he square dances with dr manhattan, ill talk about the game

I'm not sure I follow your logic. I don't care who we played yesterday a St. John's game win or loss is more important to me than whatever Cleveland St. does. When a St. John's fan site has more threads about Cleveland St. than it does about St. John's I think something is messed up.

In direct response about yesterdays game it was a good win for a number of reasons. It was the Big East Tournament, beat Georgetown twice in a row, and we get an opportunity to extend our season for at least one more game. With this being said it doesn't shout we're back! or anything more. It is what it is.

heres my logic...it was a much bigger news story than us beating gtown...it involved a former st johns player...this is a st johns board...3 people created threads on it, and another thread discussing the 3 threads, which means people wanted to talk about it...you said we should have talked about us winning our first big east game since 2003 right?...not knocking the kids or the win, but we finished 13th in the league this year and if it wasnt for a new format to the tournament we neither would have made the tournament, or drawn such a weak first opponent...this year was no different than 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, or 2008...so yea, congrats to the kids on the win, but dont say everyone should be talking about it, and people who want to talk about something else are unreal

Why is it wrong to talk about a player who we chased out,
but it's okay to blow a guy in Virginia who strung us along, and then screwed us?

Strung along and screwed us..    where do you get that from..?

Will LS fall into the same category if he decides to go to Kansas or Maryland...

like i said in the chat.  georgetown is on our level.  it's not that big of a win.  sure it's in the tourney but let's not make it out to be like we upset someone or this screams "we're back" it's a win and shows that norm is staying next year which quite frankly pisses me off (i knew he was staying anyway but still).

cle state MADE the ncaa.  that's much bigger of a story and there's nothing wrong about talking about it.  i'd rather talk about that then stj beating a team on their level.

now if we beat marq... that's when people should be talking.

Actually, SJD, Cedric was a kid that took a chance on STJ when we were at our worst.  WV was all over him and he could have played for Beilein and played on very good teams.

Ced came in early and started classes and he did everything asked of him.  He was the best defensie player in the conference and he worked as hard as anybody on the court.

Norm recruited over him, and I'm sure asked him to leave because he has Kitchen, Wright, Calhoun, etc coming in and saw no need for him with Mase and Geno already there.

Everyone just expected him to go to a small school and fade away, but he went to a very good coach, and his game blossomed.  They beat Syracuse AT SYRACUSE this year...we lost by 30 at home. The kid just beat #17 Butler in their place for the conference championship after beating a very good Mil-Green Bay team.  It's the closest to a meaningul game a St. John's kid as had since another transfer, Ingram, went to the NCAA's.

I can't get excited about beat a 12th seed in the conference tournament, when they were terrible all year.

It's not a good thing when you have the best defensive player in the conference transfer out. Ced made 35 starts at STJ and played big minutes. There is no way he would have been scared off going into his junior year unless Norm said something along the lines of "Maybe you should look somewhere else if you want to start and play big minutes."

Norm could have easily sat down with Ced and said "I know we have a lot of young talented guards and forwards coming in, but you will be a junior and your defense and hustle are invaluable.  We need you."  He didn't...probably becuase he wanted his 'ship for Kitchen.

Let's not have revisionist history.  Great defender but Ced could barely hit the backboard when he was at St. John's...and his handle wasn't good either.  He ended up where he belongs at a mid major.  I'm glad he's doing well.
