According to realtimeRPI.com, as of today our RPI is 141.  There are 65 teams that to go the NCAA Tournament and 32 that go to the NIT. That is a total of 97 teams.  Our RPI with a win over Marquette and even a win over Nova in the next round would not have given us that RPI.

Also, we would only have had 17 wins WITH a win over Marquette.  To put that into persepective, consider that 10/12 teams in the Big 12 won at least 18 games (nine won 20 or more) and all had higher RPI's and better conference records.

Nine out of eleven teams in the Big 10 would have to get in before us--eight of which had 19 or more wins and the ninth, Northwestern, beat three top 20 teams and had 17 wins.  All have RPI's of 76 or better.

Also, 9/12 SEC teams have at least 18 wins and better RPI's.

Next, consider these teams with more wins and much better RPI's:

Providence, ND, Cincy, SH from the Big East

1.Portland St  23-9
2.Old Dominion 21-10
3.Hofstra 21-11
4.Tulsa 24-9
5.UAB 22-11
6.Houston 21-11
7.Utep 19-12
8.Wisconisn GB 22-10
9.Wright St 20-13
10.Niagara 26-8
11.Buffalo 21-10  (automatic)
12.Creighton 26-7 (automatic)
13.Ill. State 24-9
14.USC 20-12
15.Arizona 19-13
16.Nicholss St 20-11
17.Davidson 26-8
18.Charleston 26-8
19.Citadel 20-12
20.Arkansas LR 23-8 (automatic)
21.Nevada 21-11

We had no shot at the new NIT.

what would be the point of playing...if we lose then it'll make people want to throw up, and if we win, so what? it'll be like being the smartest person in a remedial math class

Georgetown Providence and Notre Dame make the NIT.   Seton Hall shut out even though they finished above Gtown in regular season league play.  Gtown's RPI much better though.
