OOC schedule
« on: March 15, 2009, 12:27:58 PM »
Obviously, we played too many cupcakes this year.

Next year, who should we schedule out of conference, and why?
Local mid-major rivals? National powerhouses?

Here are a couple of my suggestions.

Kentucky:  National program, Norm's history with Gillispie.

Kansas:  Because they're Kansas, Self.

Michigan, Michigan State, Florida, Purdue, USC?

Xavier, Hostra, Temple, St. Joe's?

If LS is here and qualified, they should try to maximize the national exposure for the one year experiment. Get fans and recruits talking about St. John's nationally, our version of the O.J. Mayo effect. We've been off of the radar too long.

Normally, I'd like to split our OOC with:
40% high-majors
40% mid-majors
20% low-majors.

I agree if we get Lance I say go all out , no more Cupcakes ! We saw  where that got us this year in the CBI. If we played better competition we would of at least got into the NIT.

Our  9 game OCC schedule should consist of 4 road game against underachieving high majors , Colorado , Georgia , Oregon & Iowa.Then play 5 of the following top NY State mid- majors next year at Carnesecca Arena , Binghamton , Siena  Albany, Buffalo & Hofstra.

100% do exhibition games out of the states and see if we can get Queens college here in an exhibition again  since we are losing money going on the road so much during OCC.

Do we play in the Big East SEC challenge next year?

We still have MIA? , Duke & probably VT also next year? So that should give us a tough OOC road schedule.

@MIA
@Duke
@Georgia
@Colorado
@Oregon
@Iowa

Carnesecca Arena OCC home games- Binghamton , Siena  Albany, Buffalo & Hofstra.

Attack basketball, pressure defense, 40 minutes of hell ... Early on it might be 30 minutes of hell, then 10 minutes of what the hell are you doing?"

We should play all the Philly Teams. That's were Norm gets most of his recruits.

That is the worst schedule I've ever seen in my life.  You need to be smart about your scheduling.  They key is to get cupcakes that are not disgusting (RPI 250+).

Also, the RPI really rewards teamst that win on the road--even against a bad team.  Go play a Marist in the McCann Center.  If you are going to play an NJIT, play them at their place.

Another key is to play a lot of cupcakes and then throw in some really big-named teams.  We already have Duke for example.  You need the wins, because without 19-20 wins there is not shot at the tournament.  If you can rattle off five OOC opponents with huge names like Duke or Kansas, you look good.

I disagree If we get Lance we should challenge our self especially with upper classmen playing 250+ RPI on that are mid majors is a waste of time. I like the rode games I selected the RPIs that are not that high and they are from the major conference that would entice the committee more playing in front of a larger crowd than the McCann Center @ 3,050 max .   RPI 235 Colorado ,RPI 180 Oregon ,RPI 121  Iowa , RPI 192  Georgia , I only could see a possible lost to Oregon who will be much improved next year the rest are cake walks.
