the downside is the spin the administration will put on it.  i.e. how can we fire the coach when he "led" us to our first post season in six years.

it's completely bogus...just as the nine games we bought at the beginning of the season to give us 16 wins.

I really don't think the adminstration will go this route and the play the post season card. Lets give them the benefit of the doubt on that one.

benefit of the doubt?  they're keeping a guy with the worst ever record at st john's around for a sixth year.  what benefit of the doubt?  they've already played the big east post season card.  read their news releases.

Now its clear that it dont. And it dont look like it ever will... 'least not in the near future.

Program used to have standards? When in 1985? OK, but what kind of standards did they have when they were choking girls,dealing drugs,changing grades to keep kids eligible, setting kids up with wheels, paying players and banging hookers? Even 1 of our beloved players shot a guy in the face killing him and than tried top cover it up. Our only NBA player charges into the stands to beat on fans. Standards, where?

How about trying to root for these kids instea of trying to relive the blood and crip years

rooting for these kids means rooting for them to benefit from a new coach.

We get that you dont like Norm, its been said numerous times over and over and over. Just because I dont bash him doesnt make you more of a fan than me. Get off the pedestal

Basketball is a craft and the only way to get better at your craft is to experience new things & learn from those new experiences. I can't see how  the majority of you guys are letting pride get in the way of player development & exposure. The championship game came on fox sports net last year. And we could have a potential match up with Stanford who plays in another big media outlet. Zags is on SNY he recognized that we are in the CBI , he is going to talk about us when he makes his appearance on SNY I will put my money on that.

It is not like Norm will use this time to recruit top notch players, this is the best usage of opportunity cost.

This is what this tournament is, no one pays attention to it, ESPN does not show any highlights of it, end our misery and focus on next year and making last minute pitches to Lance even though he decided and won't reveal. Society, US as in the fans, does not count this as redemption for our years absent of post-Big East tourney play and this is another stupid effort by STJ athletics to say we are doing better when were not, this is a tournament for schools like FORDHAM, not us

Although it might not make a sound.... At this point... I don't see how it can hurt. I think it can only help the players get some extra playing time against some decent competition (not great... but not cupcakes either).

I like the analogy you start off with since in fact the games are not played on ESPN & now the championship won't even be on Fox Sport Net . & the point that you gave about how Norm should be focusing all his attention on Lance at this crucial moment.  Those are all valid points why you should not play in the CBI but the whole pride thing makes no sense to me. Standford is in it this year and they have been running a more success basketball program than SJU over the last 10 years and I doubt their fans are complain this much.If they are not complain how dare we complain.

As for Lance this dude has yet to make an official visit to this school and he lives an hour a way by car but he managed to go for officials at Kansas & Maryland. Norm can't even convince him to make an official visit to the school I doubt he can talk him into coming here. If Lance comes here it won't be because of Norm , Norm energy should be used in the CBI this is the best case situation  for this basketball program, not sit there and pout about how bad this season went, how does that help? Let's gather the troops and fight on & make the best out of the season not crawl up and quit.

The problem is nobody know who St. John was: a national powerhouse full of hardcore NYC players who done the school proud.
