I know the current state of affairs doesnt really leave st johns with a "sense of entitlement"...but come on, the CBI?  I mean we're talking about the NIT of the NIT...I dont care how far we've fallen, we're still a big east school and we still have the 7th most wins (I believe, forgive me if I'm wrong) in college basketball history...of all things norm and this administration has done, I can honestly say this has pissed me off the most....any bit of pride this school had was just flushed down the toilet

Your mad because the school has a chance to go to the CBI , may I ask what is the down side?
Attack basketball, pressure defense, 40 minutes of hell ... Early on it might be 30 minutes of hell, then 10 minutes of what the hell are you doing?"

Times are changing. This is another way for schools and people to make money. Just like football this is why we have the papajohns.com bowl, free credit report bowl, etc. Its no longer just the rose, orange, sugar bowl.

the downside is the spin the administration will put on it.  i.e. how can we fire the coach when he "led" us to our first post season in six years.

it's completely bogus...just as the nine games we bought at the beginning of the season to give us 16 wins.

except in football,  teams with losing records don't go to Bowl games.

I really don't think the adminstration will go this route and the play the post season card. Lets give them the benefit of the doubt on that one.

I understand the pride thing but Pros out way the Cons.

Pros
1)We have a young team more experience for our young players in a post season tournament.
2)With our media advantage we still keep our name out there before baseball takes over.
3)Not saying we are going to win because we have one of the lowest RPI & worst records in the tournament but winning would help with recruiting winning always helps with that.
4)TV time doesn't the championship game come on Fox Sport net
5) The most important reason to play & win the CBI,Leitao won it last year and got fired today. It would speed up Norms departure

st. john's used to be disappointed with a #5-6 seed in the NCAA tourney.  fans are now supposed to be exicited about the CBI?

we had a losing record, had maybe 4 decent wins, and had to PAY to PLAY in this crap tourney.  that's as desperate and pathetic as it gets.

there are no positives to going into this.

1) this isn't a real post season tourney.  no one gives a shit if we win or not (fans-wise).  i doubt anyone would ever say "playing in the CBI helped me perform in the NCAA tourney and conf tourney"

2) still keep our name out there?  WE ARE ST JOHN'S.  since when are we a mid major program and "any publicity is good publicity"?  the only time we should be mentioned is how much norm should be fired.  taht's it.

3) how the #$%^ would winning this tourney help recruiting?  are you stupid?  so if norm went into doron lamb (using it as an example)'s living room and said "look. we are making progress. we just won the CBI"  do you think lamb, a top 25 recruit, be impressed?  the guy is being recruited by the best of the best, why would he OR ANY RECRUIT FOR THAT MATTER be impressed by a championship in the CBI?

use common sense.  the guys norm needs and should be competing for, are the guys who are being recruited by the top teams.  saying we won the CBI has sign of progress while they are being talked to by the huggins's, pitino's, boehim's, etc. who can all point to NCAA tourney champs, or elite eight's.  a champ in the CBI does nothing.

i have never been more embarrassed as a st john's fan.

Program used to have standards? When in 1985? OK, but what kind of standards did they have when they were choking girls, dealing drugs, changing grades to keep kids eligible, setting kids up with wheels, paying players and banging hookers? Even 1 of our beloved players shot a guy in the face killing him and than tried top cover it up. Our only NBA player charges into the stands to beat on fans. Standards, where?

Those are the pros?   wow.   Media coverage?  do you honestly think any media will be covering this thing at all? We barely get coverage during the Big east season.  2013 covered the recruiting angle pretty well previously so i won't belabor that point.  I don't even think these kids wanted to play anymore after Marquette. Did you read their quotes?  They are finished.   I'll give you  #5 though.   the rest is a bunch of nonsense.  MEDIA COVERAGE!!!!  please tell me that was a joke.

First game I went to was a St Johns game back in early 80's, I live in and grew up in Queens, went to High School near SJU so naturally I became a St Johns fan. But I will say some of of the former players and coaches have been hard to root for, some I loved to watch. The current players, not as talented as some in the past certainly are easy to root for. No matter what I think of the coach, I will root for the kids to play well and win

this game is what it is. I watched some of the fan today and yea Mike was pissed we even accepted this bid. but they had the guy on who runs this and said it gives young teams another chance to play and get some experience. and also the winner of last year tulsa got more money from it than did ohio state who won the NIT. Mike ripped him for taking st johns and oregon state. they both laughed when mike said he just wants to meet barack obama and he probably hopes oregon wins to the guy. Is it great we are playing in the CBI? No is it good our players get to play another game and get some experience? It Cant hurt.

I'm going to this game. I've never been to a game before, I have lived in Virginia my whole life and I have never managed to make it up to New York and all of the other games around my area always seemed to conflict with my schedule.

Should be exciting, I'm just praying we don't lose.

I had been on the fence with this decision, leaning towards declining and just officially putting the season behind us, but I think that Peekskill is right… maybe these kids need to put that awful performance behind them and move on from it.

Even if we were to lose to Richmond, I can virtually guarantee that it will not be as poor of a performance than what remains in their minds now.

Remember… these are 18-22 year old kids, and I use that word with no disrespect. They are young men, but they have a deservedly poor opinion of how they played in their last game and they have the right to at least push that to the side to begin their offseason.

Richmond fans are actually pretty excited for this game. They haven't sniffed a NY or Big East team in a long time. This may be the only chance they have in their lifetime to see St. John's in person. I know it sounds funny but its true.
