QUEENS, N.Y. (April 9, 2009) – St. John’s head men’s basketball coach Norm Roberts announced that freshman guard TyShwan Edmondson (Hopkinsville, Ky.) plans to transfer to another institution following the University’s spring semester.

“We wish TyShwan the best in the future,” said Roberts. “He leaves our University in good academic standing.”

Edmondson played in 26 of 34 games as a rookie in 2008-09, averaging 1.7 points per contest and 1.0 rebounds in 10.0 minutes.

Here is the ship for Stith or Lance

This was predictable.  Seemed like a good kid, but was never going to get any time here and was not BE material. Good luck in the future Ty.

this is norm being norm.  he's a bigger ho than that woman in pittsburgh.

if you don't think this kid is disappointed big time...then you have no feelings.

if he didn't belong...then norm shouldn't have recruited him.

13 transfers?  give me a break.

Is there any doubt?  Malik Stith--another PG--is rumored to be signing and *wham* a scholarship is freed up.

Everyone says Norm runs such a clean ship, but he doesn't care who he has to cut to make room for a kid he thinks is better.  That isn't too clean in my book.

For five years, Norm has been recruiting numerous kids after his scholarship limit is exceeded.  He has no problem telling a kid they're done.

I thought he might stay , he will never sniff this type of conference ever again.

I think he has potential, the year off will only make him stronger I can see big things for him, maybe we should of red shirted this kid.
Attack basketball, pressure defense, 40 minutes of hell ... Early on it might be 30 minutes of hell, then 10 minutes of what the hell are you doing?"

No Cedric Jackson here?

In a perfect world he has a good college career and we go to the NCAA next year.

I'm sure he is disappointed as well. Who wouldn't be? I'm sure he will be excited to get an opportunity to play elsewhere though because was going to be buried on the bench here.

I don't think Norm signed the kid thinking he wasn't going to work out. I do think Ty has some potential but I don't think St. John's has the luxary to wait for him to reach it. I think the separation was for the best for both parties.

Not that you thought this but Norm got crushed for being loyal to Geno when many thought he wasn't talented enough to be here. Now people are bashing Norm for cutting dead weight to improve. What gives?

Like I've said before this transfer was for the best for both St. John's and Tyshwan.

I don't think anyone wanted Norm to not renew Geno's 'ship.  I think they just wanted him to cut his minutes to around 20 or so.

I just think it is wrong to recruit a kid who has the full intention of playing four years of basketball, studying for four years of school, and making life-long friends.  Norm has 13 transfers in five years and there might be more.

Obviously, some of the transfers were not forced out, but this is ridicolous.  You have to feel for the kid here.

Norm's recruiting is so bad that that he continually takes kids that are gambles at best and the scrambles to replace them.  It's like he is always fighting to save his job.
