Best College player next season?
« on: June 15, 2009, 04:01:31 PM »
With some great players graduating and leaving for the NBA, who will be the pre season player of the year?

How about Luke Harangody? Who else is out there?

Good question.  Some possibilities include Sherron Collins, Greg Monroe, Kalin Lucas, Pat Patterson, Willie Warren, Cole Aldrich, Kyle Singler.

It depends on which of Marco's questions are being answered really.  His thread title of Best College player could indeed turn out to be Wall but his post asked about preseason all americans and frosh rarely get that honor.

Evan Turner, Ohio State.  Or Willie Warren.  Though I bet Robbie Hummel, Luke Harangody, John Wall (and everyone else on Kentucky), and Cole Aldrich/ Sherron Collins will get a lot more attention.

And if Kemba Walker gets his outside shot to fall... he might be one of the best players next season.

(That's to answer "best player" next season. I think preseason player of the year will go to Harangody and at the end of the year he'll have a hard time keeping those votes. Willie Warren, or maybe even a player lie Damion James might sniff the preseason award.)

Harangody will be insane again.  Aldrich should be very, very good.  Ed Davis might put up some crazy rebounding #'s.

I think Kemba Walker will also make a huge jump this year.

Harangody might also play for a mediocre team; can a player on a one-man team with no deep post-season tournament hopes get noticed for player of the year honors??

Pre season he can, post season remains to be seen.  He's the highest ranking returning player from last year's AA teams.  And next year'st team will be about the same as this year's team.  Hansborough will take McAlarney's place, Scott Martin is a good experienced addition.  There's new large caucasian guys moving in to take Hillestand and Zeller's places.  I am sure that his end of year consideration will be tied to them doing a fair bit better than they did this year.

Two other guys that could merit pre season consideration would be Trevor Booker and Taylor Battle.

A couple of people have mentioned Kemba Walker...

I think the guy on UConn that is poised for monster season is Stanley Robinson.

Lance Stephenson will definitely be in the running for Euro League Rookie of the Year.

I'm not sure Davis will score enough to by POY but he'll be a rebounding and defensive force.  Ebanks could really breakout.  He was playing great at the end of last season.

As a Duke player must always be considered one of the top based on ESPN Rule 7(b)(ii), Kyle Singler will be mentioned as a national player of the year contender all season long.

The scoring probably won't be there, but I can see Davis leading the country in blocks and rebounds.  I'll say 13 pts 14.5 boards and 4 blocks a game this year.

I think both ND and G'town are much better this year than the past year.

What about Babbit from Nevada or George from Fresno State.  Great players.  Also, the big man from Butler is going to break out.  He won't be POY caliber, but not far behind.

You've been all over Vasquez for years.  He's not THAT good.
