Also something to note still no Niagara....another "schedule conflict" ?

http://www.niagara-gazette.com/sports/local_story_190214902.html

For the second year in a row, Niagara won’t play traditional rival St. John’s. The two Vincentian schools interrupted their century-old series last year, unable to find a suitable date to play the game.

The Red Storm were slated to visit Lewiston, and both Mihalich and Niagara Athletics Director Ed McLaughlin said last summer that the rivalry would resume in 2009.

“We had a significant amount of discussion back and forth over the past year,” McLaughlin said Thursday. “We got down to a point where they felt strongly that the game should be at their place, and we felt it should be at our place. We couldn’t come to an agreement.

“Looking at our schedule, we couldn’t give up another home game to go play them.”

McLaughlin said he’s “very hopeful” the series will resume next season.

St. John’s is scheduled to play St. Bonaventure at Rochester’s Blue Cross Arena on the same night Niagara hosts Drexel. McLaughlin said St. John’s did not bring up the possibility of playing Niagara at Buffalo’s HSBC Arena.

Last year was much harder. MIA,BC & VT

Last year... people on this board were not saying these teams were that hard. They were claiming they were the garbage teams of the ACC.
You know what, though (and I am hoping I didn't say anything about those teams being the pits of the ACC, don't think I did)? That's foolish. BC was iffy the year before but they're always tough, Miami won a lot of games the year before, and VT... well, they weren't that great but they just took the Storm out back and punched them into submission.

Speaking of which, those three ACC games highlighted something surprising - a lack of physical toughness for 40 minutes. You'd think that since the coaching staff thinks that toughness wins you games (as opposed to toughness but also defensive technique and the ability to get quality shots), the team would have been able to physically brawl...

I hope they don't have games like VT and Miami (and half the Big East slate) where they look like the struggling, losing boxer, standing up on sheer pride.  These non-con games will probably depend more on their ability to slow down and match speed as opposed to matching physical strength.

It's pointless to play Niagara.
Who cares if we skip them?

Oh yea, they do.

Siena is more than enough.
They are probably the best MAAC program ever.

Playing Siena on a neutral court means we don't have to worry about any other MAAC teaming whining about not playing us.  Why play Niagra and Siena?  Seriously.  Just play an Ohio State or an LSU.   Same sh*t different name and respect level.

If you play Siena, at least you can count on them for the end of the season tally of "Teams that made the tournament."  Niagara won't make it.

Marillac=sunshine pumper.  STJ will be very good next year.

With Niagara...Its a tradition thing for some people.
When you're a kid from New York and you do it in New York, that lasts forever!
