If we gave Marquette a game in March, then yea, I could see somewhere near forty,
but with pathetic showing we had, no way.

I guess something like 75-85, and that's optimistic.

Top 40?!

BWAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!  Whoo, that's funny.  Top 40.  Top 40 is a near tournament-team (allowing for the usual 30 major conference teams that should get back to the tournament, and 10 or so mid-major/ A-10 squads that should also be on the door of the NCAA). I would say 70-85, but I'm not sure what up and coming mid majors are out there off the top of the head.

How many mid majors got at large bids last year? Why would this year be any different? I still say we are top 40,top 50 to say the least

I'm going to go with #93, but we'll be better than that when the season is complete.

I think we have the potential to do much better however for arguments sake of where we will be ranked here I think low 90's is a solid estimate.

No. By this rating system or by RPI, the 30-50 range includes NIT teams and the better, and the high majors that are good (like the whole Big 10).  take a look at this list:

http://www.rpiratings.com/mensrpi.html

Our squad is not (yet) the quality of the TOP 60 teams.   Potentially, they could get there. But if I were writing a preview, I couldn't fathom putting the Johnnies higher than 70, and that would be me being a homer.

At the end of the year, they could be top 50, maybe even top 40 if they can integrate Mase/ Horne/ Hardy/ Lawrence/ Kennedy into an efficient offensive force with good ballhandling, better defense, and contributions down low.  I hope I'm proved pessimistic. But last year, only-okay VT and Miami teams just took the Johnnies' lunch money.  There have to be solid improvements from the returning players for the squad to get near the NCAAs.

So according to this, Fairfield is better than St Johns and Seton hall

Hey... maybe they were.

Obviously the formula drops St. John's because they played such garbage opponents. Seriously, I'm just saying that if you told me some of those teams beat St. John's last year - like Oregon State or Richmond or Vermont, I would have believed it.

per another rating service I watch- Kem Pomoroy

http://kenpom.com/rate.php

Stj finished 2009 @ 116 & Fairfield @ 172, proper ratings both, I think

IF Mase, Malik & JB 100% last year, I think we could have had 2-3 more wins
raising our eoy ranking to around 90 (Good for NIT bubble ?)

With all healthy, another year older, no rotation losses & 4 new contributors,
I'm going to project beginning of year ranking of 82
and end of year POM rpi of 60-65 & a few NIT wins

Who cares?  Unlike college football where this could actually affect things a little, we prove who we are on the court. Stupid rankings preseason like this don't mean s hit. Let's prove it on the hardwood.

Ironic coming from a Dookie. Preseason top 10 every year, inflated top 10 ranking every regular season, Vitale slash espn fellatio every year, inflated NCAA seed every year, and nice personically high NBA draft flops every year. (#4 pick Shelton Williams in the house.) If DeWk had to prove it on the hardwood it'd prove to be NC State.

FWIW last year STJ was #142 on this same preseason list.
