http://www.fiveborosports.com/ssp/blog?id=226The 6-foot-1 Burtt, who for my money would be in the NBA if not for his size, led Gold’s Gym with 29 points, making 11-of-19 shots and 3-of-5 from 3-point range. Mike Glover added 26 points, many of them against his older brother Anthony, and Gordon Malone, a former West Virginia standout, had 21, as Gold’s Gym topped Queensbridge, 113-108, holding on to an early lead. Williams had a game-high 33 points and 12 rebounds, showing how well-rounded his game has become.
Burtt, a streetball veteran, said he considered Nike Pro City the best of the many summer leagues in New York City.
“It’s real, organized basketball,†he said. “You know you’re going to play against guys at your level or better.â€
The game held plenty of intrigue and highlight-reel moments, the best atmosphere, Burtt said, he has witnessed as a player in the league. Gold’s Gym raced out to a 27-16 first-quarter lead, but found itself trailing 50-47 late in the half before Burtt scored five straight points to give his club a 56-52 halftime lead. After Queensbridge got even at 78 with 3:50 left, the crowd on its feet, the gym shaking, Burtt drilled another trifecta, giving Gold’s Gym the lead for good, 81-78.
