I am sure that Tha Kid made a typo, because as we all know the legal drinking age in NY has been 21 for quite a while. I’m sure that the future Mrs. Tha Kid, also an attorney if memory serves me, would have respected the state laws.
Also, "back in my day" (like 15 years ago) a lot of the clubs were 18+ so really, if you were 16, you could be in... lots of city kids didn't have driver's licenses, and there was leeway. Its tighter now, but with all-ages clubs and with some perseverance, you can certainly be clubbing at 16.

I just got back from spending six weeks out in the Hamptons at my parents' place, and the nicest beach day was literally the day before we left. I'm closer to 40 than 30 and haven't been hip for years, so I couldn't tell you any of the hot spots.

A lot of clubs are 18 to enter and 21 to drink.   A good fake will get you in even younger. I was also going to clubs since 16--Facades in Rockland County was infamous.  In fact, I drank there the night before my high school graduation with a dozen friends almost all under 18 and the principal and my mom called literally a 100x to get me out of bed the next morning to practice or I couldn't walk in the ceremony.  Walk of shame hungover and an hour late in front of 500 classmates LOL.

You know Baldi and WASJU were glowstick dancers back in the day!!!
