Bad news, I just left the hospital where Justin Burrell is waiting too have his right hand x rayed. Justin fell ackwardly and told me all his fingers bent too far back and then he heard something pop. At present he cannot move his right hand. He certainly will not play tonight or tomorrow.
Dele did not make the trip due to visa issues and Mason did not dress up as I believe he has a pulled hamstring.
In no particular order:
1. Quincy Roberts plays very well off the ball and is certainly an asset to the team.
2. Omari Lawrence can clearly play at a high level but seemed to be winded, out of condition at times. He has a stocky physique.
3. Malik Booth played very well , offensively and defensively. The offense moves well with him in the game and he leads by example.
4. Malik Stith seems to drive to his right a little too often. If nothing else we will be a better team as he can give Booth a rest for periods of time.
5. Sean Evans has still failed to comprehend that he is not a guard. He turned the ball over on more than 1 occasion dribbling up court or into traffic. If he would stop dribbling and just play around the basket I would have nothing but praise for him.
6. Justin Brownlee also has many attributes but suffers from the same affliction that ails Sean Evans, he must pass the ball and stop trying to go coast to coast as if he was a guard.
7. Paris Horne just more of what we saw last season. Kid is an absolute winner.
8. DJ Kennedy, see number 7 above. I love Horne and Kennedy.
9. Dwight Hardy looks a little frail and had a great shot during warm ups. During the game he only had a shot or 2 which I dont believe fell but finished with a quiet 12 points. Nothing bad to say about him.
Did I forget anyone ?
Yes, Rob Thomas. He played a little wearing a brace. He is certainly not in 100% form. Norm used him sparingly as a result of his injury.
The team pressed and ran all game which was refreshing to see. They gave a great effort for all 40 minutes. They have more depth than any SJU team I have followed over the last 28 years. Do they have their defined roles that everyone will be comfortable with, that is a tough question. Norm has his work cut out for him trying to figure out who plays, how much, at what position and which combinations. I dont believe it will be easy to figure all that out but the players seem to like him and respond well to the coaching staff.
