7:14: Spoke with Wolfeboro (N.H.) Brewster Academy coach Jason Smith just before I headed to bed last night. He said it's unlikely that Maurice Walker signs early. Pittsburgh seems like the school to beat though.

"That's definitely his leader, but I believe his parents would like him to take another visit to have something to compare it to," Smith told Scout.com.

Kansas, Seton Hall and St. John's are
a few of the other schools involved with the 6-foot-10, 265-pound big man. (ED)

Not that they'll get him but this is what I'm talking about - if they can't (or maybe even if they can) get Pinkston, the only other players they should be grinding for are bigs.  Centers. 6'9" post players. They can take a little longer to bring along, and with the mass exodus of talent before 2011, St. John's doesn't want to be playing 4 completely college-raw frosh, no way.

And at least that way, the team could be much of the way to a starting 5 - [Center recruit]/ Malik Stith (if he's good enough)/ Omari Lawrence/ Quincy Roberts/ [2011 freshman].

If Yeguette can rebound better than DJ Kennedy and defend the post for stretches,, maybe. I think the staff wants long, agile players more than they want bruising post men.

I think the staff wants anyone who will actually sign a LOI to play here.  Whether they are long and athletic or bruisers is irrelevant if the coaches can't close.

I think we can forget about this kid....  Honestly, I didn't think we really had a chance with him from the jump.

MJ,

The kid weighed over 300 pounds on Saturday. If he grew up in So Fla, they'd have made him into an o-lineman.

300 lbs!?!  Wow!  Is he still "light on his feet?"  Does he has good stamina, Sleaveless?

I guess it's all relative. He can chug from end-to-end, but he's not, in any way, speedy. As for his vertical, he's a an under the rim big man.

I'd like to have him, as he could turn out to be a good collegiate player.  Not to mention, we're also gonna need some good players to fill out this roster in another season.

I think he could've ended up at St. John's, if we were winning and had another coach.  Frankly, I think he ends up at Pitt or Georgetown.

He's always wanted to go to Pitt, but the feeling hasn't always been mutual.

Yes, I knew he was a Pitt lean before.  If, Pitt isn't really interested then I think we may have a chance.  Hopefully, we get rid of Norm and this kid hold off on a committment 'til April.

Doesn't this team need a point guard more than anything?

Nope!  This team needs a coach more than anything.  The point guard issues is second to the coaching issues.
