I should also add that SJD, your opinion is certainly valid - I just disagree with it.  And Marco's not touching your post.  OVER MY DEAD BODY, MARCO!

We SHOULD have higher benchmarks, and hopefully that will come.  But the school likes incremental advancement, and this was an advance.  It sucks to lose, and you're right - we played like crap for 10-15 minutes - but unless this team is Michigan State or even Syracuse, I'm not losing any sleep over a 9 point loss at Duke.

If they s**t the bed against Georgia, I will be looking for throats to cut.  If we get blown out by more than 1 team in conference play, I will be annoyed (though one of Villanova/ West Virginia/ Marquette/ Syracuse will rip this team to shreds).  It's the continual lack of competitiveness that gets under the skin.  You can't go from non-competitive to beating Duke in a year, unfortunately.  Realistically, this is shaping up to be a progress year.

I would never touch the post, that was a joke. Lets get off the ledge here a bit.

So SJD, you would have rather a bigger loss if we played tougher D? Please explain

I just watched the game SJD, and I think you're flat wrong.  I think there were serious lapses - they lost their g*ddamned composure in the first half, and they still don't defend like crazy people... and I think the staff seriously has to address the issue of a PG who isn't a real scoring threat.

And yes, there are things that could be done better.

But I think, for once in a long time, Duke actually gave a really strong effort against St. John's.  They didn't mail in that game, like how they fell the f--- asleep last year, or calmly blew our guys out two years ago.

I agree. I think if Burrell played 34 minutes they win that game. I don't think it is necessary to have the PG be a scorer. More so , how many baskets can he create with assists. DJ was a superb passer today. The guards need to match that. With them using and hitting Justin and Sean inside.....that's your good basketball. High  % basketball.

Marco, I just wanted to start a flame war.  Or an e-fistfight.  Get back on that ledge, Marco!

absolutely marco...today was an early season game against a top 5 team at one of the toughest places to play in the country and i wasnt looking for a win at all, i was watching to see how we played, both on offense and defense...i was looking to see if the team changed in their style of play offensively from years past...if they had a general idea of what they wanted to do offensively and if they executed that plan, and not necessarily made the shot...i wanted to see them, with their depth, maintain a tight defense and maintain it through the entire game without major lapses...during that stretch before the 16-0 run, i was impressed, and i felt they had changed...they were driving to the basket, sharing the ball, and if jumpers had been falling, we would have been up by a good margin...but then, like clockwork, duke made a run...and my problem is not that a great shooting team hit their jumpers, bc duke will do that against kentucky too...my problem is as duke made their run, we didnt stay cool...we panicked...we got sloppy, we made turnovers, we had the ball literally taken out of our hands (coker)...then we took bad shots...then we stopped attacking with our bigs...then we stopped rebounding and being aggressive on defense...the reason im upset, is when the chips were down, we didnt play smart, and we got taken out of our game, and this is exactly what has happened in past years, that has led to blowout losses, or even close losses...you take out these horrific runs teams make on us at points and we are most certainly an ncaa team...and broken record time but this is the coaches job...during a run, call a timeout, remind them what they need to do to stop the opposing team and take THEM out of their game...what worries me is that they havent learned to deal with this yet and they are juniors, and if this continues we're headed for another disappointing year...it bothers me so much that we have such good talent and it has stretches where it looks like a high school team...duke is a great team but it didnt take long for this big east down year to become not so down...this league is once again stacked and 10 min vacations in games are gonna get us nowhere

Ok, I could see your point, I dont necessarily agree with it- but to each his own. Some say Boothe had a good game, I think the complete opposite. He dribbles way too much and turnover prone. Also noticed he was lazy getting back on D a few times

I'm not sure how you can say that when Coker played so well in Burrell's absence.  Coker changed the game inside.

we had wasted minutes with omari in...ive been saying it all along the kid has potential but i really dont want to see him in the line up.

the embarrassing parts about the game are how we got out rebounded (got killed by their offensive rebounds) and how even with our best possible shooting night (other than paris) we couldnt get over the top or even bring the game down to the wire.

i loved how we ran and overall i loved our defense (besides rebounding). i thought booth played well--he made people guard him.  i love paris and his defense but he is leaving the door open to lose his starting job with his poor shooting and lack of aggressiveness.

overall i am not embarrassed about this game. we have a ton of room for improvement and if these guys get it together we will be #$%^ing scary late in the season when you want to be playing your best ball.

i asked last week how we played offensively and defensively from people who had seen the team play and most importantly, could we compete for 40 minutes without major lapses...the answer is still, after 5 years, no

Every team in college basketball has lapses even Duke yesterday. If this was lack of effort that would be one thing but guys were going after loose balls and playin hard. Duke punched us and we punched back. Guys did not quit or hang their heads they fought back. What's embrassing is you not letting the game finish before putting up this post. You can come back from lapses in a game but you can't if you have a bunch of guys who don't care. We have guys that care and who fought back. Nothing embrassing about that.

SJD is this or is this not a game we lose by 30+ last year?  This team is much improved.  We definitely have a lot of work to do, especially as it pertains to or half court offense and rebounding, but at least we have things we can single out as opposed to years past when we just sucked in every facet of the game and threw our palms up in disgust.
