A look ahead
« on: December 10, 2009, 01:18:09 AM »
Fordham will be a W or the season is not even worth discussing. (8-1)

Hofstra is 6-3, with their best win coming over 7-1 Elon--who lost by 42 @ Duke.  They live and die by 6'3 Jenkins and our best defender is 6'3 Paris Horne.  I always feel great when the opposing team's best player is a shorter two, because Paris is a great defender.  It would take Jenkins close to 20 shots to score 20 pts on Paris.  Meanwhile, DJ will devestate the beanstalk that is Lester.  Way too strong.  Game will be close, but like Georgia they will never really threaten.  They just won't have the offense.

Cornell will be scarey.  They are 7-2 and have played a very tough schedule.  Their only two losses were @ SH and 'Cuse by 10 and 15, respectively.  They struggle against really athletic teams and we should have Mase back then.  I think we pull this one out based on our athleticism alone, but it will be close.

To add, Cornell's love of the three ball will add a ton of deep rebounds to our wings. We really get out well and run in those situtations.  Their PG, Dale, is also good at getting in the lane which could leave them susceptible to breakouts if he misses or the recepient of of his pass misses.

We beat them by 10 last year when then were without Dale, but we are so much better this year.

Not so sure Cornell beats Davidson. They're likely to, but not a slam
dunk. Bob McKillop is damn good. He might overcome a slow start.

As for Hofstra, this is a gut check game, not for the guys, but for Norm.
He's dodged them for 2 years, and because we've never beat them under Norm, it matters so much more than a game against any other local.

I agree about Horne. It might be more than one guy on him. They spread the floor very well. Pass the ball well in transition, and rebound. We are more talented, but Norm will have to be prepared for Pecora to beat him.

We should know better at SJU to say a game isn't worth discussing. We've list to St.Francis, Fairfield and to Fordham, I might add. Anything, is possible. I do think it will be our first blow out win, but I hope to God, we are not going sleep on them.

They played an inspired game against Stony Brook. You never know.

If we beat Fordham by 20+ we are in the top 25 IMO.  Three teams in the 20's lost already this week--Wisconsin, Vanderbilt, and Butler.  At least one more should lose this weekend.

O'connell gets a vote in the AP and he is STJ alum.
Also, the STJ-Georgia games was televised nationally coming off of the Duke game being televised.

Cornell is a good team and Hofstra will be up for the STJ game. We have yet to put together a complete game. The turnovers will kill us in BE play if we don't get it straighten out. Coker has been a pleasant surprise and I hope he keeps it up. I like our chance by the looks of the upcoming schedule. We are deeper then all of the teams mentioned above and more athletic but that does not always = victory.

I don't see how beating Fordham at Alumni Hall will gain us any respect from anyone in college basketball.

A 20 + win for us is a moral victory for the Rams.

We haven't beaten anyone by anything close to 20 points.  Let's shelve that idea; our guys might be 20 points better but they haven't been crisp with the ball.

I saw HOfstra live recently. Jenkins is incredibly big and muscular.  Paris may have trouble containing him.  They have absolutely nothing inside.  Our bigs should be able to dominate inside.  Hopefully, we don't just settle for threes.  I was totally unimpressed with them, other than Jenkins.  Not impressed at all with Chaz Williams (although only one game).  He looks like Boothe---only smaller---and very confused on the floor.

I think we spank Hofstra, we cannot compare this team to Norms teams of the last few years. Totally different. Hofstra barely beat Manhattan College last night 44-39. Jenkins shot 3-14 from the field witt 9 points. They dont scare me at all, theyll need Jenkins to score 40 to have a chance, that aint happenning

Baldi, we barely beat Brown. A team rated lower than Man.

I see Blue and Gold, and start shaking.
Until we prove otherwise, Hofstra owns us.
