our school administrators sent students to quiet the crowd......

then after the game some cockbag fordham fan came to the student section to inform me that stjohns sucks and we will lose to every team with a banner on the back wall. when i answered that beating fordham by 18 didnt mean shit, his sister threatened to beat me up lol.

but at least i got a free ice scraper

Student section is doing a great job but probably not a good idea to be shouting Fordham sucks on teh night the University President decided to show up for his only appearence of the year.

w.e the threats are anoying but really send over public saftey no one wants to hear what some student has to say about our chants.  also its college basketball, i understand if we said anything down right terrible but calling someone an a rear of a donkey is better then alot of things.  as far as the game it was alright up 17 played at least 10 people, at one point we had 0 of the starters in so at least our bench can hang and is getting work when they are needed.  would like to see more of dj and horn or at least give them some 30+ minute games

its a damn shame that the university was kicking people out and telling fans to shut up. One of my friends was heckling one of the loud Fordham fans and PS came over and told him to pipe down...cmon are you serious! we barely get fans and now we are telling those fans they cant chant or taunt the other fans? Does Duke's administration silence the cameron crazies?!?! NO! its an outrage

I was reading that article in the "college and pro sports" section about roy williams having a fan of the opposing team kicked out for shouting during one of UNC's free throws....so Fordham fans yell during our free throws and the students respond to them by calling them douche bags...we chanted for one of fordhams benchwarmers to get into the game, and some old guy behind their bench keeps giving us the middle finger, so some of us chant "classy" and the others chant "a$$hole"...and we were told that the entire student section would be kicked out and not allowed back in the rest of the year of they heard us curse again

Say what you want about whether or not some profanities should be chanted or not, but the bottom line is this is a college student section and theres not ONE college student section where you dont get atleast a portion of the student section chanting things like that. We don't say anything personal about players and IMO we dont "cross the line"...It's so disheartening having to constantly be hassled by st johns administration and it really makes us just not even wanna come to the games

No matter what it is, whether its marketing, public safety, tickets, getting the freaking sound system to work, it just seems like this school can't ever do ANYTHING right

All that being said, I'm not putting too much stock into this game. Like mike said, the fans and players just simply dont get up for these games like they would against a tougher opponent. I just don't see us missing this many shots and playing this sloppy against big east teams

btw glockinfora....who are you haha

i am the short chubby white kid at every game who yells profanity

...that may describe about half the kids there lol

i dont understand why the administration would want to quiet the crowd.... would they rather have little kids or their own students and alum....

The only one who should be embarrassed is Harrington. He's made the program into an afterthought, even on its own campus. He ought to be grateful to the 30+ students in the stands and the 13 on the bench who still have school pride.

If this turns out to be the season that the program officially turns the corner, they've got to get realistic about what fans will be yelling.

Yea I personally enjoy seeing people trying to figure out that you can't say that.

Personally I don't condone or think that anyone should be using profanities. I don't even like when the students chant out "Douchebag" repeatedly.

I've always tried to be more clever than that. Whether it be a double meaning or something relevant to the player in question. Thats my opinion.

I also know what its like to be in the student section and have you own school treat you like some criminal instead of a scholar of the university. You're there to have fun and not cause trouble.

Basketball games shouldn't have the same environment as church.

If an SJU student can't afford a ticket, I'd be happy to buy a few for them. I was a student once, and i get it. Books and food come first. There has got to be a healthier way to get our students out there.

as a fan it is obviously about enjoying yourself, but the job of a home crowd as a unit is to rattle the other team and whatever support they have in your building. yelling douchebag at them and getting a coach to look up at you when he is trying to talk to his team may not translate to much on the court, but the 6th man is about trying to tip the scales the slightest bit toward a W.

The administration is pathetic.  The higher-ups that call for students to be threatened and treated this way are pathetic.  They truly don't care about alienating the FEW true fans they have left.

People have to realize that a basketball game isn't an opera.  Let the students use it as an outlet to be kids and be loud and obnoxious.  I curse quite a bit (as Dave can attest to from the Siena game in Philly), and as long as you're not getting ultra-personal or threatening, it's OK.  It's a basketball game, for christs sake.

If the Student section really wants to gain power the right way, they should write a formal letter to Billy Singleton, asking him how they could become a relevant part of the program.

You don't have to be profrane, to be effective.

Coach K talks to his student section. At 8-1, maybe it's time to approach someone in the athletic dept. Start somewhere. If you're a student, stand up.

Hence the creation of Johnny Jungle. Stormfront and the school didn't exactly have the same vision as I did. I agree with you yelling and heckling opposing players/coaches however I think yelling "douchebag" is a poor choice of how you want to go about it.

Make fun of the coach's name, hair, shoes, plays he's yelling out but don't call him "douchebag" what does that prove? Nor does it help your case with getting the admin off your back.

Also like it or not it's a catholic university so there will be more reservations in the way the school wants to present itself. We Are...not Illinois.

Haha Theo got yelled at by some guy with his kids because he said "Suck"

Theo you were hardly cursing but you did yell quite a bit. I love it. I didn't know you had it in you. The highschool games you're always so reserved.

we dont really curse at the other team/coach, we do bust out the douchebag.. douchebag.. douchebag.. when other teams fans yell during our free throws or flip us off... it can easily be called inapropriate but i cant think of a better way to deal with those situations, maybe stormin normin can get security to throw them out like in north carolina, but thats really not good for anyone

the specific douchebagx3 chant is great....it shows unity and always puts all eyes on the douche, destroys their ananimity and usually shuts them up

it is fun to get creative, but the more distracting is the profane group chants

One way I think that the student section could improve is to get the kids who sit in the section closest to the St. John's bench who cheer loud and bring them to the other side.  Having all the rowdy people in one section will project the noise better and make it easier to organize loud group chants.

Another problem is the kids who are in the student section who sit on their hands and just take up space.  I feel if we could somehow separate these two groups and put the people who just want to quietly watch the game on one side and the people who want to stand, cheer and participate in the chants on the other side we would have a much more rowdy and hostile environment.

I'm pretty sure we are one of the only schools who have a split student section and if we had the number of people and the amount of vocal people necessary to successfully execute the split student section it would be doubly intimidating, but until we get that I think one real loud section is better than two dull ones.
