We will NOT be top 25 this week...
« on: December 14, 2009, 10:08:32 AM »
I just don't see it.  I bet we're going to be somewhere between 28-32.  Pollsters have short memories.  They will not give us enough credit now for the Temple win retroactively like they should.  Temple might even leapfrog us.  That said, RPI does not take into account when the win occurred, and when the selection committee reviews are win vs. Temple it will be seen as much stronger, so who cares.

I don't think we'll be top 25 before 2010 personally.  I think we'll be on the cusp until we win another big game, and that can't happen until GTown on New year's Eve.  Hope I'm wrong, cuz if I am, that could be a great top 25 matchup...will DVR it and watch it Jan 1 probably lol.

Agreed.  I think that if the team beats Georgetown, though, it's definitely a top 25 time, and will be around there for a while.

First, we have to win Hofstra.

Then, we´ll speak.

I think its certainly possible but I can agree that its more likely to happen in the way you suggested. However I'm very cool with being 26-32

30 Votes this week.
That would place us as 34th.

Moving on up!

How does temple have 53 more votes than we do?!?!?  We beat them in Philly, we are a much better team than they are.

Beating the #3 team in the country would certainly help. A win against a quality team certainly outweighs a loss to a quality team.

Not sure.  Everyone loves em despite 3 losses.  They did beat Ohio St. this week and played GTown close.  But 3 losses, including to Clemson and Minnesota - both who are also receiving votes - seems like they should be also receiving votes and not in the top 25.

Good teams lose too but early on in the season its hard to justify them in the top 25 when there are other well deserving teams. Also they beat Ohio State who was without Evan Turner. They are a completely different team without him as he's like DJ Kennedy on steroids.

Ohio St was without Evan Turner who is their best Player. Ohio St should also not be in the Top 25.

Bottom Line we need to beat G town to get into the top 25.

I like this team but I have doubts.  I odn't think we're top 25 material.  Top 25 teams have to dispatch B-S opponents, not let them hang around with line changes and indifferent defense on  freshmen.  If I'd seen any of St. John's wins over low-level teams (Brown, Bonnies, Stony Brook), I wouldn't vote the Storm top 25 either.

I don't know about seven of them, but we're definitely better than some of them.

Top 25 ranking is nice for aesthetic purposes right now, but the good news is that in this sport, it really doesn't mean a damn thing.

We are in a very good position for the NCAA Tournament as long as we finish about .500 in the Big East, I think. No walk in the park, but very possible.

The non-conference schedule is almost over and the SOS is strong enough to have us sixth in the RPI. I know early season RPI means very little, but it's a nice sign that we can have a decent RPI if we win.

I think we actually 4th in RPI,behind Duke,Kansas St and West Virginia. Temple is 6th

I think it depends on the site. We were fourth on RealTimeRPI's yesterday, but back to sixth today. Warren Nolan has us fifth behind Duke, K-State, WVU, and Texas. Temple is also sixth there.

Either way, pretty strong.

Do you think if our margin of victory was higher than we'd get more votes?
