See those comments that follow though?  I guess our boys have to have more convincing wins to win folks over.

the top 20 ranking is fair.  no one has beaten us except duke and the refs.

I chimed in, maybe slightly homerish, but I had to stick up for our guys.

Nice.

We got our early season buzz.

Now we need fans in the seats at MSG

Jeff Goodman of Fox put us at 21.

"There are three newcomers to the poll. Temple’s win against Seton Hall, coupled with the Owls' victory against Villanova a couple weeks ago, made Fran Dunphy’s team worthy of inclusion. And since St. John’s knocked off Temple on a neutral court and the Red Storm have only suffered one loss — to Duke — Norm Roberts & Co. made their debut as well. "
When you're a kid from New York and you do it in New York, that lasts forever!

I went on as well to argue a bit.

Apparently, the first guy who made a comment against St. John's is a ND fan. I guess he is pissed we are ahead of him.

Notre Dame is going to need Luke to drop 40 to beat us this year.

Agreed. However, I don't think it will ever come to that because Dele, Evans, Brownlee, Thomas and Burrell (hopefully) combined will wear him down.

They're in South Bend this year... when Luke and crew ran the Johnnies off the court last year.  Just saying.

Personally I don't think we're ranked until/unless we beat GTown and Providence in the first week of BE play.  I imagine we'll get to 26-28 with 2 wins this week.  It's not a big deal,. and might not even be that bad...keeping the guys hungry rather than looking ahead to BE play.

Pollsters look ridiculous right now.  Gonzaga has three losses already and they are top 25?  They lost to Duke by 35 on a neutral court and we lost by nine @ Duke.  Temple is #21 even though we beat them relatively comfortably in Philly.

They need to start rewarding teams for what they have actually done and not for what they think they will do over the course of the season.  At this point, a 9-1 St. John's team, with a top five RPI, deserves to be in the top 25.

These rankings don't mean jack at this point in the season. No reason to get all worked up about them.  Lets see where we are ranked at the end of January, or better yet beginning of March.  thats what matters.  there is no difference between 15-30 at this juncture of the season.

It means something to our image and rep.  We have been a joke for five + years.  To see a #23 next to St. John's on the schedule or the TV will make a lot of folks say "really?"  It can only help with recruiting.

with a rough early BE schedule, if we don't get there in the next 2 weeks we might not get their all year yet still be a bubble team.  I think it's impt. for recruiting to get into the top 25 at some point in addition to making the tourney.
