“I’m not going to comment on that,†Monasch said. “We think we’re going to have a great year. I still think we’re going to have a very good year. We’re happy with where the program is at right now.â€
Roberts is 75-90 in five-plus seasons in Queens with no NCAA tournament appearances.
“I think we’re clearly a much better basketball team this year, based on how we played in the non-conference games and how we played in all of our Big East games,†Monasch said “Getting a win tonight, I think we’re right on target where we want to be.â€
GRACE RECRUITING GIBBS
Former Nets coach Lawrence Frank sat courtside and said he has no interest in coaching at the college level, preferring instead to get back into the NBA…Davontay Grace, a junior point guard at Brooklyn Thomas Jefferson who orally committed to St. John’s, said he plans to call Seton Hall Prep junior point guard Sterling Gibbs to try to persuade him to join him in Queens in 2011. “Yeah, yeah definitely,†Grace said. “I just got his number.â€
Grace said the St. John’s staff would like to play Grace and Gibbs together the way Villanova plays two point guards in the backcourt. “They’re talking about playing us together, like Scottie [Reynolds] and Corey Fisher,†Grace said.
