I bet the powers that be (making decisions) would think NBA guys will leave for the next pro opportunity.

i really hope that is not the case. we really need a former nba coach. even if he were to leave in a few years. our program needs a shot in the arm. having a former nba coach would be a huge help in recruiting. the bleeding needs to stop, if we dont start winning soon, people will start to forget st. johns was good at all.

Do you really think Baron or Pecora can hang with the big franchise coaches in the Big East?

Do High School players even know who Chris Mullin is?

It's more likely they know who Mullin is than Jim Baron, no?

I meant I am not sure a Chris Mullin or a Mark Jackson would want to deal with AAU coaches and everything else that goes with recruiting. They are both millionaire former all star NBA players, do they really want to be kissing a$$ and whatever else they would have to do to get some 17 year old kid to play for them?

I assume that if they take the job they'd want to excel? So they'd have to do what they'd have to do. Pitino's rich and successful, he grovels fine. That being said, I don't think either one is a serious candidate.

Just for argument sake say Norm is fired after the season. My gut says Pecora is our next coach.

Pecora would be a safe choice. The thing about Harrington is that he's made good hires, at least theoretically. Fran was a good hire. At the time Jarhead was hired his stock was way high. Even Norm, although obviously not a home run, was a swing at the fences: young, black, NY guy who has SJ as his dream job -- if he could only coach he'd be perfect, no? Percora might be too obvious for someone who thinks he's as smart as Harrington thinks he is. I almost see Cluess as more likely because he's a little more obscure. IMO Pecora's another mediocrity. Hire him you might as well join the A10.

So you think Cluess? Seems like a bit of a reach at this point plus if the admin feels it finally has to fire Norm, I am guessing pressure is coming from somewhere. Not sure how a Cluess hire would play.
Now I have about as much insight into Father Harrington and his orange message boy's thought process as I do the crazy guy that yells at traffic every day in front of my train station.  But if I was laying odds I would still go with Pecora.

My realistic choice would be Fran McCaffery.

My unrealistic choice would be Fraschilla part II. Will never happen, but maybe his failures would have humbled him enough for the institution to try a do over.

I don't think Cluess, because I think Norm's going nowhere, but I think that the same I think I'm smarter than everyone else impulse that caused FH to hire Norm might lead him to make a more esoteric selection (Cluess or Willard) over a logical choice like Pecora. McCafferty's fine, I just don't see him competing with Pitino et al.

I don't think anyone we have a legit shot at could recruit with the Pitino's.
I agree Norm is getting another year, but if he does get fired, who would be your realistic choice?

We'll either end up with some NY lifer like Pecora or Cluess, or some mid major guy on the come - McCaffery, Brian Gregory, etc. I don't know enough about them to have a wish list. I would have hired Booby G last time, just for the spectacle.

Or Father H can really give the remaining fans the one finger salute by firing Norm and hiring Fred Hill
