this was in August:
According to Calhoun, Sr., Lavin told him that he was basically going to show and prove. "He told me that he wanted us to see the high quality national guys he was going to bring in for the 2011 class to show us where the program was headed," said Calhoun, Sr. "It seemed like he wanted to show us what he can do so that he could present a better argument."

well step one complete onto step two to go after calhoun hard

Baldi, if we're that good, kids will go pro, and if they're good enough to we can help them pack.

Nova had no problem taking Goodman, even though they already have top rated guards who might start.

Agreed, just seems like we are set at the G/SF slots for years.

Calhoun led the way with 23 points, going 12 of 12 from the foul line in the win.

Calhoun's stock is dropping. A few people keep saying he's looked bad on a few separate occasions. He still might be the best prospect in NY but this isn't saying much right now.

The current state of NYC basketball is not as strong as it once was.

He was 8 of 15 today (3 of 6 3pt FG), 7 of 10 FT for 26 points in an upset loss to Christ School [Arden, NC]. Meanwhile, the overly publicized Isaiah Lewis shot 4 of 16 for 8 points at the City of Palms.

City of Palms 1st 2 Days Highlights; Austin Rivers, Mike Gilchrist, Shabazz Muhammad & Many More!

Calhoun's portion starts around 2:09, if you want to skip the other players.

Omar Calhoun (Middle Village, N.Y./Christ The King)
2012, SG, 6-3, 185 pounds
He's blossomed on the perimeter and sports the range and confidence needed to be a high-level wing. Calhoun's approach at both ends is strong and he's a guy who plays hard. He's the type of wing who looks to knock down a 3-pointer or finish at the rim. We'd love to see him develop a dribble-drive, pullup game and attack the middle of the floor. He's a Big East priority with Villanova, Pittsburgh; he feels like a priority for each school and recently visited North Carolina.

There is always room for a shooter.
Also it's possible that a good player waits his turn. Some of our top recruits will have to as it is now.

Bingo.  Calhoun has played with some stacked rosters and always finds a pretty big role.  He's played with Harkless and he was the offensive emphasis over Mo.

I love our class, but we don't really have enough pure shooters.  We have D'Angelo (can't wait!) who will likely be absurd from day one and we have Mo who is a far better shooter than many give him credit for, but we really need one more kid to be able to flirt with the 40% mark.  We have a ton of athletic guys to do most of the other stuff.

I still think Omar will go to Nova.

When you're a kid from New York and you do it in New York, that lasts forever!

The 6-foot-5, 185-pound 2012 shooting guard from Christ the King is receiving heavy interest “from the entire Big East and most ACC schools,” his father, Omar Sr., said by text.

Omar Sr. said they were “trying to schedule a good time to visit Coach [Jim] Calhoun and UConn.”

In this interview with MassLive.com, Omar mentioned “Villanova, Pittsburgh, West Virginia [and] North Carolina.”
