If Norm is such a nice guy...

why bring him back to subject him to this?  We had an online site devoted to getting him fired LAST season.  The man finds his way into every thread on all three STJ fan sites regardless of how little the topic has to do with STJ basketball.  It's alway deragatory, too.

He has two quasi supporters on the sites...Baldi who just blames Jarvis and RSHF who would support a polar bear as our coach.

We started chants to get him fired last season. 

Why not just announce his termination right now and spare him and his family the five weeks of embarassment?

To add...if Norm's termination (effective at the end of the season) was announced right now, I think most of the fans on these boards would be thankful and respectful to him as a man.  It would also take the hand off the throat of Monasch and Harrington.

It is a win/win.

look at it like this. they wanted him to do something and he did it. he didnt give them no scandals for 6 years. thats what they wanted

the admin is waiting for the wild card....a miraculous turnaround and go 7-1 for the rest of the season.

 every you say about firing him now makes sense from a logic standpoint but its not happening.  Norm's a lousy coach but he's a classy guy. let him finish out the year. Its the right thing to do.  Fire him after the season, within a week of the last loss.

 

I don't agree with the decision, but if the idea is that it takes players until their junior year to be competitive/ to develop into the "system", and you allow the coach to bring in more than half of a roster in one year (and 2 players were injured for a chunk of last year), I think they wanted to give him all the opportunities.   And maintain some stability in the program.

And you can't say it was in some way a vindictive idea, which you're getting at, Marillac - considering that the team actually did play decently in the first half of the year.  They looked like they might be around .500 in the league.  And the assumption (a poor one) was that the BE would be diminished.

I guess I've always believed that Roberts viewed this job as nothing more than a stepping stone job to getting his real dream job, Kansas. He's failed so miserably that the Kansas job is nothing more than a pipedream at this point.

norm isnt bad he is missing something to get over that hump. i had time to calm down and look at the game we was up by 16 at one point. u cant do that if u sucked as a coach. i just dont know what the hell it is. but he hsould hold himself accountable for this game. he couldnt crack the 1-3-1 he cant say they played 28 minutes thats not fair

kob, you can only play so well for so long without a point guard in the game. norm is going to get fired because there isn't anyone to run his offense when opposing teams buckle down on defense. We clam up. Get nervous. Turn in over.

We took a lead on Burrell 3 pointers, Brownlee put backs, and a nice scoring effort out of Horne for a period of time. Still, it wasn't a start that we could replicate.

It's nice that Burrell could knock down the 3. Did they try and get him the ball again? Nope.

As nice as a guy Norm is, he is not a head coach. He is the guy parents and recruits want as a guy they can lean on when they have problems on and off the court.  As a head coach he has to be a guy that overlooks everything.  SJU needs a proven winner that can be a guy that gets the approval from AAU coachers.  Today's kids want to know they can win and AAU coaches have a ton of influence.  He will get another job as an assistant or a head coach on a small level circuit.   I want him gone as much as the next guy because I want to see this team win.  As much as I hate Duke, an assistant on that staff that can tell kids what it is like to play on a national stage kids and coaches will respect.  Please let Norm go and lets get back to where we once where.

Maybe he could get Illinois.  Illinois Wesleyan. 

I think we need to hire a head coach. Could a Duke guy be great. Sure, I'd feel better about a less risky avenue. We got a guy from Kansas, and Illinois.

I'm looking at a guy who makes decent recruits into star players. There has got to be a few guys on a team that develop. We have one. Kennedy. Baron has done that. Pecora has done that. At SJU, they'd get more recruits. Pecora is playing with what felt like a 6'4 PF.

You know, the sad thing is Norm's recruits according to Rivals and a few other sites have not been bad but in the big east you need stars and we do not have that.  We all know Norm could not coach these kids to be great so my question is, if we bring in one Big star can he make the others better?  If that is the case, others will follow, that is the big question the next coach has to ask.

You need a reality check:
I’m sure Father Harrington stayed up many nights late, and lost a ton of sleep worrying about that website. He probably prayed for the souls of the 450 people who signed the list, including Pete Moss, Dick Hertz, Seymour Hiney and several other prominent members of the basketball community.

And those chants, those chants started by at least 20 people and lasting for almost 15 full seconds. What an embarrassment on national TV.

Go back and read what Lenn Robbins wrote yesterday. Look at what Kob just posted here. A clean program with no scandals. That’s what’s important to the school, not how many conference games this team wins.

You may not agree, but until you are made the president of this fine school, your opinion doesn’t matter one bit.

dont get me wrong norm cares about winning. im not sure if father harrington does. but i dont know i dont think i  have ever meet him. i think if they gave norm a little breathing room he could get the doron lambs and others but they are real uptight. i blame norm for not adjusting because like i said he has enough talent to make it to the ncaa tournament. malik boothe or not. but him getting 5 star recruits on the same playing field as nova even rutgers he is playing with 2 hands tied behind his back with a bag over his head.

Norm needs a middle man to help land some recruit$. Someone to get him over that hump. Maybe an influential alumnus, maybe Jay Wright or Calipari can recommend someone? Does World Wide Wes have a little brother or cousin available?

So you're saying they should let Norm pay players and/or their handlers?
