Paper bags are an insult to the players. They will be offended and rightfully so.  I say chant away. This is on Norm,  not the kids.  A grown man, who choses to coach , should be able to withstand calls for his job.  Its part of the deal.

Pitino did a lot better than Steve Philips though.  Good God man!

Youre right, I think the bags reflect the play on the court, which inturn would reflect the players. I dont know what the answer is, but this just doesnt seem right

Think maybe Norm deserves something better? Just a thought

Maybe plastic bags instead of paper ? :)

I appreciate everyones input.  I think we need to PROPERLY phrase what we write on the bags so we get the point across that we are protesting the COACH and ADMINISTRATION, not the PLAYERS.

as i said in my original post, i will ONLY wear the bag if we are getting blown out or if it becomes  clear down the stretch of the game that we are losing.  i will still be rooting for us, and the one thing i DONT want is to become a sideshow during a game that we have a chance to win.

OK, here’s a few great ideas to write on your bags:

Norm sucks…
It wasn’t you that just missed that dunk!

Norm sucks…
It wasn’t you who fouled their midget 45 feet from the basket?

Norm sucks…
It wasn’t you who drove into three defenders who were 12+” taller than you?

Seriously, the coaching may be lacking, but the execution has been even worse. My feeling is that it’s a team effort, win or lose.

We win together, or we lose together.

There certainly is enough blame to go around here.  However, in sports, the coach is going to be the one who takes the hit.     This is how it works.  Sorry Norm.

RSHF, Norm recruited em.

It's on Norm.  The spin has gotten ridiculous.  I understand Norm is a nice guy and you're friendly with him, but it's time for us to STAND UP for our program.  Writing on message boards isn't enough.  We need to be seen and be heard.

ok. ive gotten to the point where i dont care if the players get offended.

they've given up and theyre not committed.

ive heard things from numerous people about seeing basketball players at traditions [or other bars/clubs] after 1am, when there is a game at noon the next day. [the nova game is the one specific time i remember hearing this]

ps: if my night class gets cancelled tomorrow night, ill be at the game.
and ill be glad to wear a brown paper bag.

i will TRY and buy some in NYC prior to the game (and bring markers as well), but you should try and locate your own just in case i cant.

I don't see anything wrong with paper bags, chants about the coach's job status, signs, t-shirts or any other expressions of free speech as long as they don't involve profanity or potentially hazardous rhetoric.

"Blank must go"/"Fire blank" and paperbags on fans heads both have a long history and are well established and accepted parlance in the sports arena.

These "kids" are in their 20's (like myself and many of you).  They get a $130,000 education for free, get plenty of girls, attention, etc.  They can handle fans wearing paper bags on their heads.  You don't just sign up for the good when you play a college sport.  You have to expect a little negative attention from time to time.

Besides, they all know it is for the coach.  They are not blind to it.  Heck, I'm sure at lest 1/3 of the roster would welcome it.  They want to win.

I suggest bringing signs today!  Maybe FATHER HARRY, THE STATS DON'T LIE:  and then have Norm's record.

Or Norm Roberts' BE RECORD:  XX-XXX  (WORST IN BE HISTORY)

or

BRING BACK JARVIS (imagine how THAT would go over with Fr. harry ha ha ha)

How about instead of "Fire Norm" chants, "We want Pitino" chants?

 ::)
The phrase perfect storm refers to the a simultaneous occurrence of events which, taken individually, would be far less powerful than the result of their chance combination. Such occurrences are, by their very nature, rare, and so even a slight change in any one event contributing to a ‘perfect storm’ would be sufficient to lessen the overall power of the final event.

It's good b/c obv....they're play L-ville. And secondly, you can do it throughout the game, SJU doesn't necessarily have to be losing to do it.
