He's a great coach. Imagine what he could do in New York.
I really hope the SJU admin is smart enough to leave his personal life out of it.

He would be crazy to go to the Nets unless he really needs the money. The Nets would be crazy to pay what it would cost to get him. Pitino would be beyond awesome. However the chances we get him are the same as me winning Mega Millions. If (and) when I win I will buy him for you guys.

i'm holding as much hope of this happening as santa turning out to be real, but if he does become available, and he doesn't jump to the NBA, monasch needs to get all the boosters, and throw everything the school has at him, bc, what the hell else is out there for us, besides mid major coaches

She may be home already, my neighbor tells be that she has been "living home" in Merrick with her sister for a while.

FWIW: He owns the property adjacent to their home in Florida.

I'd be SHOCKED if Pitino is there past this season.  I think he wants a pro job, but I think we'd be one of the very few college jobs he'd accept.

He grew up less than an hour away from campus, his wife is from NY, STJ was a HUGE name when he was getting started, and what coach would love to resurrect a program like St. John's that has been written off by nearly everyone.

If a coach comes in here as bad as we are now and in 2-3 year has us in the Elite 8 or better, his legacy will be greatly enhanced.

With Repole on the committee, we might have the balls and the money to not settle for crap and go for a program-changer like Pitino.

I think the only thing that would prevent him from here is Harrington. His life has already become (and unfairly) a media circus. Harrington was content with losing as long we were avoiding any bad press. Hopefully, he'll stay the hell away from this hiring choice.

If we ever did get Pitino I would expect a tourny berth next year and to land three or four of the top five JUCO's for the following year as well as the #1 overall high school recruiting class.  Think of the damage he could do with all those scholarships!

I know it's dreaming, but with the rumored group in the search I'm thinking Pitino or Donavan.  :)

Zags reporting today that Pitino says he has absolutely no interest in the Nets job. "He is finished with coaching in the pros". Our chances are still real slim, but if the $$$ are there maybe he wants to come back NYC ? Within a year or two SJU would be playing all 9 of its Big East games at the Garden. Louisville is opening a new state of the art arena next year but who knows, other than $$$, what his priorities are. Hope at least we go after him with a serious offer.

When he said that "the BE doesn't need SJU to be a strong program", I think what he was getting at was the lack of commitment on shown by the school.

After all that he's been through with the media, would ghe come to a place where the administration is as opinionated as SJU?

Nice to see him say that about the Nets.  I forgot about the new arena Louisville is opening...
it is really something.  It will be the best arena in the country.

Ok, now I'm a little worried.

I think if the school has money, they should be looking to bring in an excellent younger coach - Billy Donovan, perhaps (I don't know who else, I never thought that was a possibility).

And Mark Jackson?  Really?  That sounds like a bad idea - you'd have to get him a recruiting assistant, a development assistant - what has he proven he can bring to the table?  How would he be different than any other ex-player with no coaching experience?

Why would you need a search committee to hire Pitino or Donovan? Those are no brainers. Jackson has never coached and you cant put him up against the Hall of Fame coaches in the Big East.  Thats all I'll say
