If the NIT has 32 teams, there will be some teams in front of St. John's for a bid - Cincy, Notre Dame, South Florida, U Conn (if they accept a bid - they would probably put actual fans in seats), Seton Hall. All of those teams will likely end up in the 9-9 to 7-11 range; I don't think St. John's will do better than 6-12 (and I expect 5-13, still).
That's to say the NIT is a LONG shot.
