that is HORRIBLE both for these kids

The kids seemed to have enjoyed themselves yesterday. I doubt they thought it was horrible.

They want to win. You want them to lose, for their own good.

Weak post Choz...I understand your sentiment but I personally can't root against the players...and anybody that wasn't happy for the players after the last 2 wins makes me wonder.  And I don't believe my sentiment makes me ignorant as you imply.

I think everyone wants a change...Our attendance and lack of interest in the program should warrant a change no matter what our record ends up being.

First of all, I don't want them to lose.  Never said that.

Second, by  not even quoting a fulls entence, it shows you are stretching.  It's horrible for the kids if Norm comes back.  They deserve a shot to win next year.

The end justifies the means bandwagon continues to gain momentum. What's the next stage - condemn the players for winning and thereby thwarting the cause?
I have no respect for a St. John's "fan" who roots for Notre Dame and is disappointed after we beat them.

QC,

There's a difference in rooting against St. john's rather than rooting for them and seeing what the ND win is  --- a win against a VERY mediocre team who didt have their best player --- and realize that NOTHING should change.

If people had confidence the st johns admin would make the SMART decision no one would even CONSIDER rooting against the team, as a VERY few amount of people are doing....but can you blame them?  Norm should have been fired 2 years ago.  17 wins and they might keep Norm employed...and that is HORRIBLE both for these kids and the long term success of the program.

what youre basically saying is that you have no confidence in the st johns administration to make the right decision. in that case, why root against the team? not one sane person thinks the ND win is a program changing victory. for the record i think its time for a change at coach but i was sitting on my couch last night watching the game rooting my ass off for the school that i love.

hoping for a change is one thing, but im pretty sure if i ripped off my hatten jersey at halftime and cheered for hansbrough last night, i wouldn't wake up to a headline that said norm roberts was fired.

there will be plenty of chances to discuss the future and what will be done here, but if your first thought after DJ hit those free throws and tori jackson missed those 3's was this was the worst case scenario for st johns...well then that sucks for you.

and KID, even though it sounded like it as i read the post back, didnt mean to make that sound like a personal attack just responding to a general sentiment that i disagree with. and overall, trust me im just as frustrated as anyone

i enjoyed the game.  i've rooted for st john's too long to root against them.

the whole situation is sickening.  anyone who cares about the program wants norm to go.  he had six years.

it's the shameless professional shills who come on these sites and pretend all is well after a win that make me want to puke.  this program is significantly insignificant and will be as long as norm is coaching it.

Shills? I really don't think anyone here is trying to paint a better portrait of the situation. I really believe you get the most balanced discussion here on this site in comparison to other sites.

I quoted the part I wished to address. It's not like you posted the Summa Theologica. Besides which, I don't need to take you out of context. The actual context works just fine, viz:

You might not have said verbatim that you want them to lose, but it's implicit in what else you say: "17 wins and they might keep Norm employed...and that is HORRIBLE both for these kids and the long term success of the program."

So you think it's best for the players if Norm is fired. And you think Norm will be retained if Saint John's wins too many more games. Therefore you think it's best for the players if they lose their games. There's no other logical conclusion to be drawn. Unless you're rooting for them to win, despite the fact that wins will result in HORRIBLE consequences for everyone in big capital letters?

All of which is fine: you want Norm fired because you want him fired and if the players have to suffer a little bit more to get that done you think it's worth it. Just don't pretend you have anyone's interests at heart but your own.

I can't bring myself to actively root against them. I just think its absurd that people think this was some huge win against a crappy nd squad.

The best thing for everyone except norm is him getting fired. Including me, burrell, omari, kennedy, dave, baldi, the thunderbird, etc.  Well maybe except you. If the team gets good you'll have nothing to bitch about.

QF,

Don't worry I didn't take it personal, we all have great passion when it comes to this team.

I didn't root against them. I tiger woods fist pumped when dj scored. I just think people are making a bigger deal about this game than necessary. If we still had a shot at ncaa I'd understand, but all this could do is help make a bad season mediocre and retain norm.

Its one thing to root for a win. Its another to root and then let yourself be fooled into thinking that this meant something positive. All it meant was norm can beat brey at nd once in a blue moon if nds best player is out.

Not saying you're doing it personally, but some are.

If norm is fired, this win is a positive in that the kids know they can win on the road.

I just think its absurd that people think this was some huge win against a crappy nd squad.

What is our recent road BE record?  So basically any BE road win is a big win.  Furthermore,  when one crappy squad beats another crappy squad, then it's still a big win.  For exaple,  if Syracuse beat ND on the road it would make sense to say it's not a huge win.  Makes no sense to say it about us.

Also, I think they announced that ND was 17 - 2 at home last 19 and they were 5 point favorites.

Big win.

Ugh I HATE HATE HATE when people make "big wins" relative.  They aren't.  A Big win in ANY year is a win against a top 25 team...especially on the road.

We have a long and proud history which is diminished when fans LOWER expectations and consider ND a "big win" just bc we have sucked on the road during the Norm Roberts ERROR.

I don't have LOWER expectations.  But my eyes are wide open and I'm a realist.

We were 0 - 5 in BE road games.  We won one.  Big win!

if i didn't think the discussion was balanced, i wouldn't be here.  i wasn't referring to any site.  i was referring to employees of the athletic department and their flunkies who sign on and flame the other posters by touting norm's sub-mediocre performance as genius in the making.

keep up the good work!

you have just confirmed you are judging how big the game is based on our awful record.  that means you're lowering expectations.  thanks.

LOL  Exactly, kid!  He did it without realizing it.

Notre Dame is a middle-of-the-road Big East team who was playing without, possibly, one of the top 10 players in Irish hoops history.  Harangody not being in the lineup makes a big difference.

Hey!  I'm really glad for the kids.... I really am!  IMO, I feel in some ways they deserve it due to the fact they are losing so often because of playing for one of the worst coaches to walk the sidelines of the Big East.

Did you give Norm a pass when his best player Darryl Hill was injured? How about last year when his best player AM Jr was injured? Guessing not. Because when they lose, it's not so bad and anyway there's an excuse. When we lose, it's a catastrophe and it's all Norm's fault.

if norm was a winner and had shown some signs here of making our program relevant, he would have gotten a pass.

it's all losing and excuses when it comes to norm.  that's his karma.  it'll never change.
