I think Wes Johnson is the best player in the conference.
But that does not make him an MVP.

Tough choice.

It's amazing ,Wes seems to have come from nowhere. Shows what a good system can do to showcase a player's talent. Not  an elite high school player or nothing that sexy at IOWA STATE for two years. And in a few months he is golden under JB.

One guy knew just how good he was: Boeheim.

It was the first time he said I have a player that is going to be great. Very unusual for him to brag about anyone. He usually tries to downgrade star freshman.

Still, that team is so deep that doubling Johnson won't stop them for a minute. I don't see him winning POY because Rautins, Jackson, Onuaku and Triche have all played so well together. It's a shame, because he's leagues better than Butler and Reynolds.

Johnson isn't a freshman, Poison.  He's a junior, but I know what you mean about Boeheim somewhat downgrades freshmen.  I do recall Boeheim touting to Carmelo Anthony when he came on board at Syracuse.

His mindset is to say "we stink", and then i guess he looks smart when they don't.
Thing is, they never stink. Sometimes, they're just pretty good.

He doesn't always say it, but he says it a lot. He complained a lot about Jason Hart, Ryan Blackwell, Etan Thomas teams.

Who is the player of the year? Chris Wright?

Hysterical.  You talked ish about Wright all year last year.  You said we'd DEFINITELY be better than G'town.  It must suck to always be wrong?

FWIW, I would vote co-POY's:  Desean Butler and Scottie Reynolds.

I know it is player of the YEAR, but how can you not take into account the player's entire body of work?  Desean has been very impressive since his freshman year.  Scotty Reynolds was the best player on a Final Four team last year.

Wes Johnson, on the other hand, has not accomplished a thing in the postseason.

What would you like Wes Johnson to accomplish before the Tournament starts?

GTown is better than us, I expected us to be a stronger team than them as well.
Still, they have not had anything close to the season they expected to.
You have a team as talented as they are, and you to wonder what is wrong with them?

He would have had to score over 20+ PPG for starters.  Being the best "talent" doesn't mean you should win the award.  Reynolds and Butler are more valuable to their respective teams IMO.

Plus, the body of work.  Four years of excellence for both.  A dominant run to the Final Four for Reynolds as the best player on the squad.

If you're saying MVP, then you have a list of a dozen guys that are more valuable.
Dominic Jones, Greg Monroe, Luke Harongody, DJ Kennedy, Jeremy Hazell and Lazar Hayword are all more worthy of an MVP award than Wes Johnson.

Wes Johnson is the most talented, and he's also the best player in the league. Maybe the nation.
Scottie Reynolds and Desean Butler are very good players, but they are not in Johnson's class.

Body of work has nothing to do with POY.  Its the player of the YEAR.  I still think Reynolds gets it, but because of his play this year, not his career.

I'm not on the Wes Johnson train like everyone else.  I think Syracuse takes an early seat in the tournament.  I'd take Evan Turner any day over Wes Johnson.

For college, right now, I'd take both Butler and Reynolds over him.  It is just one man's opinion.

As far as valuable goes, it is just one factor in determining the POY.  I'm not sure how you can say Harangody is so valuable after they've been playing better without him lately?  I also think Hazell is a cancer to that team, and they'd be FAR better off having him come off the bench than looking to score every possession.

Hayward and Jones are extremely valuable to their repsective teams.  I can't argue that, but neither team has enjoyed the same success as Nova last year.

The same Evan Turner who couldn't handle Siena's defense last year? Turner is great, but he has a high scoring average in large part to being by fay and away the best player on that team.

I think the only reason why Wes Johnson doesn't score 30 a game, is because there are so many capable players on that team. They might take an early seat, you never know when a bad game is around the corner.

I just don't see a way to defend Syracuse. You play Kenucky, stop John Wall. You play Kansas, stop Sherron Collins. Stop Wes Johnson, and you could still lose by 25.

Stop John Wall--easier said then done, first of all.  But then you have two lottery big men to account for.  Cousins, might be the best big I've seen in college since Duncan.  He's not the greatest athlete, but he's polished, has good feet, and is Dwight Howard strong.

Oh, then there's the 2011 lottery pick Eric Bledsoe and a host of wings that can shoot the deep ball.

No team in college can run with Kentucky when they are clicking.  None.  Patterson might be the most athletic four in the nation.  Wall is insanity.  Bledsoe has no glaring weaknesses and has really impressed as a frosh. He's a terrific athlete and gives UK BY FAR the most athletic and best ball-handling backcourt in the country.  They have a stable of 6'4-6'8 athletes to pull off the bench.

They are far better shooters--both from FT and three--than Memphis was when they blew the championship with Rose.  Its only weakness is experience.
