Postgame Marquette + What Happens Next?
« on: March 10, 2010, 04:36:18 PM »
57-55 win by Marquette.  Tough game, very close.  But the same result as last year - out in the second round as Theo pointed out.

With a weak set of major-conference teams that don't make the NCAAs, St. John's might have a shot at the NIT.

Discuss the game and the future.

Pissed off, 5 free throw attempts the whole game?

Such a bipolar last 24hours. We broke the streak to UConn but prolonged the streak against MU.

2 losses decided by 3 points. That stings.

This is what I hope for. An NIT invite for the kids (and some of the fans) and then a new coach for everyone's sake.

17 point first half was the problem.
I think he comes back, but even if it is 6 years too late, they have to get an established asst that can help him run an offense

norm will never get an x and o coach.  too much ego there.

and why should he...right now, FH is eating bird seed out of norm's hand.

Marquette only shot 10, Baldi.  And at least what, 3-4 of those were in the final minute when St. John's was fouling to extend the game.  So it's the refs all around, not St. John's getting jobbed.

I think towards the end of the year Norm seemed to sense for the first time he was in trouble. I think if he keeps his job he would comply. What choice would he have?

Ya they got 10 despite not driving to the basket and launching jumpshots

It was the free throws they missed, not the ones they didn't get, that did them in. Horne. Clank. Kennedy. Clank.

Yup. With 5 more attempts we might have hit 2 and that was the difference ;)

Norm just said on Francessa that "as far as he knows this is still his team".  Hate to say it but i have a bad feeling Norm is gonna be back.  This is so sad.  Probably won't follow the team anywhere near as closely next year if Norm is retained.  Not worth the time or the aggravation.  Will still root for the team and they will still be my favorite but damn I am so sick of this guy.

Can't compete for 15 minutes and expect to win a BE tourney game.  DJ's miss killed us.  I think Norm's gone.

We played well. Should have won. Lost again though. I would be happy with NIT bid.

I was at work so I wasn't able to watch, but I had the game cast thing up on my phone. I honestly thought it was over when it was 27-13 as I'm sure most of you did. FIRE NORM

The game was a microcosm of the season (apart for the first half deficit which was usually a lead this year ).

Not enough scoring - 17 first half 55 total points

Good defense/ability to hold good offenses in check - 57 points for MU

In the end, done in by poor FT shooting - Tie game 2:22 remaining, Hilton 1 of 2; up one 1:30 remaining our star and clutchest FT shooter, Prez, misses the front end of a one and one. ( why did the refs go to the table to check g*d knows what to ice him before that one?) MU answers with the killer 3. Game, set, match. 33% in crunch time. 40% on the game.

And in the end, a little short.
